I haven't used ivory soap bars in a long time, but my recollection is that it is more drying than Dove soap because it is closer to a detergent than a soap. You can, however, use Ivory bars to clean your clothes by hand.

I hate Ivory soap. It smells cheap, dries out my skin like nothing else, and I feel like it used to be cheap, but now it's priced like it's average or better as opposed to the bottom of the barrel.

My dad loves the stuff (he makes a lot of bad decisions) so I will pick him up a few packs at this price. But, I absolutely hate the stuff.

Looks like it's dead. Actually all the complaints about Ivory soap is due to it being too "pure." Most soaps around nowadays have added moisturizers, are pH balanced so they're less drying, and scents added so they're better smelling. Not commenting on which is "better," that's a matter of preference.
