Douglas Adams, the "master of wacky words and even wackier tales" (Entertainment Weekly), once again boggles the mind with a completely unbelievable story of ghosts, time travel, eccentric computer geniuses, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the end of the world, and—of course—missing cats.
The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul
When a check-in desk at London's Heathrow Airport disappears in a ball of orange flame, the event is said to be an act of God. But which god, wonders holistic detective Dirk Gently. And how is this connected to Dirk's battle with his cleaning lady over his filthy refrigerator…or to the murder of his latest client? Or are these events just another stretch of coincidences in the life of the world's most off-kilter private investigator?

It's two complete books. The third isn't really a part of it. It's more just a collection of essays and previously unpublished writings from Adams. Not exactly sure why they listed it as a trilogy.

So this is the first two books in a trilogy? Seems like an odd boxed set, or am I missing something?
Congratulations! You have now discovered the sleezy truth of advertising. The term "collection" or "box set" technically means nothing, but *implies* completeness. And they bank on your ignorance.
Keep that in mind the next time you're looking at a DVD/Blu-ray box set that advertises itself as "The Complete Collection", and includes like five episodes.

The collection in the Salmon of Doubt includes some chapters from a potential third Dirk Gently novel, although Adams was also considering using those ideas for a new Hitchhiker's book. In no way would I consider the Dirk Gently stories to be a trilogy, what's in Salmon Of Doubt is interesting but it is not a third novel.

These are two hilarious books, and while they're written in very much the same clever and whimsical style as the Hitchhiker series, they're a great change of pace. I first read them around 30 years ago, and they were worth re-reading several times, but it's been a decade or more. May have to do so again soon. Dirk's method of navigation has proved invaluable to me over the years.

Just looked and shows $9.84 for me, but when you click the link for it it just shows the first book, so I suspect both are not included.
Thanks for the reply. There is no discount for owning this kindle version then because I already see that price. Good to know the audio version isn't both books as well
