I bought a open box excellent from bestbuy for this configuration recently. Looks almost new, battery count is 2, was able to contact Apple to update purchase date for 1 year warranty. Really happy with it!

How much did you pay for yours? And is there a streamlined contact for the Apple warranty update or just regular customer support?

This cost $1020 plus taxes a week ago.It was regular CS; they sent me a link for invoice upload, which only took about 15 minutes.

Oh man. We're getting cheaper! Been waiting for this. Will it be even better for Black Friday? Looks like brand new is cheaper than it's been. Just slightly. $1,149 instead of $1,399. Think it normally drops to $1,199 for brand new.

Just ordered one. Looks like they have the holiday return policy. So buying now and can see if there are better deals over Black Friday.

I'm new to Apple Macs. I've had an iPhone forever. Never get AppleCare for my phone. Is it recommended for a computer? Why? I'm not going to drop it, etc. But my last computer, Dell XPS, had given me ALL kinds of problems.

I never buy extended warranties on anything. That's where they make most of the profit. If something dies I just rebuy it or upgrade from it with all the money I've saved of never buying a warranty for 25+ years.

Personal preference about applecare.Getting the apple store to look at your computer starts at $120. Fixing parts is hundreds to thousands more. Apple care is good if you drop your laptops or like to spill things. If you think you'll go to the apple store for a repair in the next year or three then it would be worth it in my opinion. If its going to sit on a shelf and be kept near new condition then you're fine without it.

I buy open box often, and Best Buy "excellent" in my experience as of late has been more like 'fair' condition- bruised, scratched, and more than once simply DOA. Hit or miss, so as others usually suggest, check it in store if you can. There's always the return period.
