these are illegal to sell in europe because the materials fall apart into the food.. formaldehyde... hard pass

just like bamboo chopsticks that the chinese have been using for thousands of years?

Bamboo chopsticks don't contain melamine, they are usually pure bamboo and once piece.
Melamine is used to put those bamboo pieces together for bigger plates. Like a binding media.
Also melamine plates is generally safe to use for cold/room temp food. Never use it for warm/hot food, it will not kill you immediately, just the long term use can be bad.

Some fear mongering going on in this thread. According to the FDA, you should not microwave with these dishes, but they are safe for use with cold and hot food.
