Agreed. I think discounted M4's are the way to go for the best value at the moment, as there isn't a significant jump from M4 to M5.

No they're not. It's the M3 lineup, the way to go.
With M4/M4 Pro you'd get 24GB RAM near this price. You're getting 36GB RAM and M3 pro. There's not a significant jump between the two.

Unless your priority is Ram - in which case the M3s are the value sweet spot.

I got the same laptop for $1,349 on eBay certified refurbished. Pretty much new - new battery, just a little scratch in the corner; otherwise, it hasn't been used.

Bought a "refurb" iMac from Woot a few years ago that arrived amateurishly packaged and with a shattered screen. I managed to successfully wade through the return process and got my money back but ever since I've viewed Woot like walking into a casino: Never put down more than you're willing to lose.

Avoid Woot on anything high ticket. This is no great deal. Woot customer service sucks also. Amaozn owns it but you will see the worst customer service and runaround with them.

Of course there is risk. But how risky, what is the likelihood of a serious issue that you'd discover after the return period, as a percent? Put that against the percent discount for this vs a good deal on a new model. Guessing this will save at least 20%, and I doubt that 20% of people have serious issues with refurb units from Amazon that they discover after the return period. All of a sudden, refurb makes sense, if it's cosmetically new also.
