only way to know for sure is to destructively take one apart. I purchased a cable once from A4C that was "genuine Apple". It came in a sealed Apple box that looked genuine. The cable looked genuine and reported as genuine. It died a premature death and I took it apart. They took short cuts in the manufacture and did not epoxy the wires to the PC board like genuine apple cables, which is why it died. The PC board was cheaply made as well. So you arent going to be able to tell unless you take it apart. So if you want a genuine Apple cable, go to the apple store.
