I have used DeWalt for 20 years, most tools are still running strong. But the past few years I have gotten a few M18/M12 tools and they are a very nice step up in quality. Can't go wrong with either but Milwaukee is definitely a nicer tool.
This Milwaukee M18 FUEL compact router combo stands out as a strong way to get into the M18 platform, especially for router work and other niche tools. The router is described as smooth, easy to adjust, and low in vibration, and the 5.0Ah batteries are said to balance it better than larger packs. The two battery bundle is the main draw, with the kit also seen as useful for replacement or platform expansion. The main hesitation is value, since the 2x6.0Ah High Output version is only a bit more expensive for more capacity and performance.
Woodworkers replacing a corded trim router, because the router runs smoothly with little vibration and the 5Ah batteries feel better balanced.
Tool platform starters wanting a niche cordless router, because it is a solid way to try the battery system without jumping straight into drills and impacts.
Tradespeople who want a cordless drill that feels strong in use, because the included 5.0Ah battery has been described as making an M18 FUEL drill a monster.
Cordless brad nailer shoppers trying to avoid hauling a compressor, because this bundle is mainly attractive for the batteries rather than that use case.
Yes, the router is described as a great deal, especially if you want the two 5.0Ah batteries. The 5.0Ah packs are also preferred for better balance on the router, and the tool itself is reported to be smooth with easy adjustments and little vibration.
Yes, a similar combo with two 6.0Ah High Output batteries is listed at $299. The 5.0Ah kit is the better value for most shoppers, while the 6.0Ah version adds more capacity and High Output performance at a much higher price.
Yes. The router listing can take a 10% military discount, and buying through the Exchange/Home Depot link reportedly removes sales tax and can include free shipping, bringing the total to about $179.10 shipped.
Yes. Returning the batteries reportedly leaves the bare router at $95.89, which can be a cheaper way to buy the tool if you do not need the battery pack.
Wow, $100 price jump for batteries that are each $30 more. The combo with two 5Ah batteries is a much better deal IMO. The added capacity is nice if you don't mind the added weight/balance but beyond that, it just feels like spec chasing.

I'm not disagreeing with you because I do think the 5AH deal is more slick.
I will point out the 6AH aren't just another amp hour, they are also the high output.

The HO works with all Fuel line, and makes that big of a diff in power?
Great router when it is on sale. Adjustments are easy, smooth to use and little vibration/jitter for the user. I do like it and bought in a similar combo a couple years ago and would definitely recommend it.
For anyone on the fence about getting sucked into a battery platforms:
1. If you aren't on one M18 is a SOLID choice.
2. If you have only 1-2 other battery platforms, still worth checking out!
Getting a more niche, but still useful, tool like this is a good foray into the lineup. Lets you know if you want to get the more mainstay items like drills/impacts and loyalty to battery platform. Otherwise you keep the niche tool like this for its uses and pick your lane later with something you could easily resell the kit and replace with another router if you're on say DeWalt or something else.
Yes they do. When on the exchange site click the link for home depot. Most everything is available thru that link. Only occasionally do I find something I can't purchase thru that link. But I just bought over $1000 in milwaukee tools thru the exchange/HD link and no tax, free shipping plus a 10% discount
