I have used DeWalt for 20 years, most tools are still running strong. But the past few years I have gotten a few M18/M12 tools and they are a very nice step up in quality. Can't go wrong with either but Milwaukee is definitely a nicer tool.
This Milwaukee M18 FUEL compact router combo stands out as a strong way to get into the M18 platform, especially for router work and other niche tools. The router is described as smooth, easy to adjust, and low in vibration, and the 5.0Ah batteries are said to balance it better than larger packs. The two battery bundle is the main draw, with the kit also seen as useful for replacement or platform expansion. The main hesitation is value, since the 2x6.0Ah High Output version is only a bit more expensive for more capacity and performance.
Woodworkers replacing a corded trim router, because the router runs smoothly with little vibration and the 5Ah batteries feel better balanced.
Tool platform starters wanting a niche cordless router, because it is a solid way to try the battery system without jumping straight into drills and impacts.
Tradespeople who want a cordless drill that feels strong in use, because the included 5.0Ah battery has been described as making an M18 FUEL drill a monster.
Cordless brad nailer shoppers trying to avoid hauling a compressor, because this bundle is mainly attractive for the batteries rather than that use case.
Yes, the router is described as a great deal, especially if you want the two 5.0Ah batteries. The 5.0Ah packs are also preferred for better balance on the router, and the tool itself is reported to be smooth with easy adjustments and little vibration.
Yes, a similar combo with two 6.0Ah High Output batteries is listed at $299. The 5.0Ah kit is the better value for most shoppers, while the 6.0Ah version adds more capacity and High Output performance at a much higher price.
Yes. The router listing can take a 10% military discount, and buying through the Exchange/Home Depot link reportedly removes sales tax and can include free shipping, bringing the total to about $179.10 shipped.
Yes. Returning the batteries reportedly leaves the bare router at $95.89, which can be a cheaper way to buy the tool if you do not need the battery pack.
Would bite if these were two 6.0 HO batteries, but this deal isn't quite sweet enough as-is for me to bite on a tool I don't really NEED. Eyes on the router or jigsaw, but I've already got wired versions of both.

The Milwaukee router is fantastic. I too have a wired plunge base router and an older trim router. I use the Milwaukee router 99% of the time. I prefer the 5ah batteries for the router as its more balanced. Overall, this is a great deal. Just sharing in case you end up needing a replacement before the deal ends.
Awesome, thanks! I've been needing a router to finish a few things in the basement and have had my eye on this one for a while. Seems like a really good buy especially with two batteries! 🙏

not jumping into the m18 platform, not good enough
M18 are pretty great and considerably more powerful than the m12 packs and tools. I've been using them for years. Do you like the Dewalt 20v tools better?

Milwaukee is better than DeWalt.

You just have to be mindful about which tools you are getting. A lot of the lower/basic versions of a respective M18 tool is just that, but the upper model ones are quite good. They certainly aren't the only brand that does this. Just Milwaukee doesn't distinguish them as much creating whole separate lines like others.

Yeah I wish some of these deals would have a couple next higher batteries and NO charger. I'd gladly take 2 6's vs 2 5's and yet another charger added to the pile I don't need.
Man, I bought this router and 5amp battery for $179... two years ago. This slick deal makes me sick to my stomach. Well, lucky for you to have this deal.
I don't normally post but its a decent deal for just the two batteries. Saw it while looking for decent priced battery powered brad nailer -I'm tired of hauling my compressor around. Happy shopping...

The combo with 2x6AH High Output is on sale as well for $299.

Using the Exchange route with the military discount can reduce checkout costs by removing sales tax and lowering the total shipped price.
The Milwaukee router can be used as the primary router for most projects, making the kit practical for ongoing work.
The 5.0Ah batteries can provide better balance for router use, which can improve day-to-day handling.
The kit can be a strong option for basement router needs because it includes two batteries for getting started.
The deal can feel less compelling if the kit does not include higher-capacity 6.0Ah HO batteries instead of 5.0Ah packs.
The 6Ah High Output upgrade can cost significantly more, which can make the higher-capacity option feel like spec chasing.
The included charger can add to the pile if a buyer already has chargers and prefers a no-charger bundle.
The current pricing can feel worse for buyers who previously paid less for the same router and a 5Ah battery.
