This Kamrui E3B mini PC is a compact Windows 11 Home desktop aimed at everyday use, home servers, and light media work. The Ryzen 5 7430U is described as a lower mid range chip, but the 32GB of DDR4 and 512GB SSD make it feel roomy for multitasking, Proxmox, and basic home office needs. It has handled Plex and Blue Iris well in real use, including 4K transcoding and six cameras, while drawing about 18W. The main limits are the weak Vega graphics for gaming and the gigabit ethernet and Wi Fi chip concerns on some units. A practical small box if you want modest power without much noise or bulk.

I know this is overkill for browsing the web, but would this be energy efficient to use as a server for Plex and stuff?
This is a 15 watt typical TDP processor. This would be perfect for Plex- I use something similar for Emby.

I've installed several of these Kamrui units for friends upgrading from older large tower computers and they always get a kick of how tiny these boxes are and then are surprised at the performance. I've not had any issues with any of them. Different versions of Ryzen processors. Haven't played with any Intel-based units apart from one N100 unit that I tried out that was dog shit.

Seems dead. Looks like the coupon has been invalidated by the black friday "deal" (which is $35 worse.)

You're right, I see that now too. It was $299 with no coupons earlier. Clearly a shifting target atm.

Launching Minecraft Bedrock on my laptop, it uses over 2 GB of RAM. This includes what the iGPU is borrowing. 2 out of 16 GB is significant.

I'm not sure why you keep mentioning 48 GB. I said that was "my" sweet spot. Nowhere have I suggested that was anywhere near normal. I also don't need 48 GB. 48 GB is a luxury that gives me more headroom to focus on other things.

If you read my post instead of giving it to an LLM, you'd see clearly that my opinion was that 24 GB would be the sweet spot for average users. I picked 24 GB instead of 22, 26, or anything else since there are 12 GB DDR5 sticks available. However, getting a deal on them, or a system with 24 GB installed, would be tricky. Odds are most people would find the best deals on 16 and 32 GB, so that's what they'll end up with.

Until a few months ago, DDR5 RAM was around $2/GB. DDR4 was even less. That meant the price difference of 16 and 32 GB was often around $30. If someone has to pay $75+ to go to 32 GB, which is often the case now, then I also wouldn't recommend it to most people. If someone could find this same system for ~$200 with 16 GB of RAM, then I too would argue that's a better deal. But if you can find a similar system for ~$240 and 16 GB of RAM, I'd recommend paying the extra $24 to get this one with 32 GB.
  • Diminishing returns - You are correct there are diminishing returns. But that doesn't mean it isn't helpful. My kids' school provided laptops have an N100 and only 4 GB of RAM. By your logic, 16 GB isn't helpful either, as doubling the RAM from 4 to 8 GB has a much bigger benefit than going from 8 to 16 GB.
  • Cost vs benefit: There are diminishing returns for CPUs, storage, GPUs, and other components as well. You left a massive gap in this argument, since there is no indicator what components someone already has. If someone asks, "What upgrade should I prioritize, CPU, GPU, RAM, or storage?" you shouldn't start by saying "not the RAM". You'd start by saying, well what components do you have now? They might only have 8 GB. Similarly, if they already have a fast 2 TB SSD, odds are they'd see more benefit for less money by upgrading their RAM to 32 GB.
  • Energy & thermals: Odds are upgrading the CPU or GPU you mentioned above would also hurt battery life by upgrading. Increasing the disk access by having less RAM also increases heat and power usage.
  • Software improvement: This is great. But it doesn't mean that people wouldn't see any improvements with more RAM. It just means it's less necessary. At the same time, as things get more efficient, others things ask for more. As memory usage improves, OSs and applications will strive to do more, increasing RAM usage again.
  • Misdiagnosis: For the average user, what do you expect? I'll spend hours trying to validate there's a memory leak in Firefox. For my friends and family, they are just going to be frustrated. Recommending they bump up their RAM when purchasing a system often leads to a massive increase in satisfaction over the lifetime of the device. Similarly, I often recommend people purchase machines with higher specs than they need if isn't an issue. The reason being not only do they get a faster system now, but it may also lead to them needing to upgrade less often.

Is that an LLM in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

It's hard for me to understand why people are so hung up on the argument that there are benefits for average users having 32 GB of RAM. Clearly it isn't necessary, and there are diminishing returns. And no, I'm not going to recommend someone pay to get 32 GB of RAM without asking a lot more questions first. Questions like "How do you plan to use the machine?", "What are the other specs?", and "What are the price differences between 16 and 32 GB?" But that doesn't mean that there aren't often noticeable improvements.
LLM? No — I just don't live in a world where every computer is bought for streaming, gaming, and flexing RGB lights like it's a personality trait.

I get it, though — if your setup cost more than your savings account and chugs energy drinks for breakfast, you need the bragging rights of 64GB "just in case."

But for people who actually use their computers for normal life and productive work?
16GB does the job — without needing a racing-seat chair to press the power button.

Some people buy computers as tools.
Other people buy them as emotional support machines because it's the closest they'll ever get to feeling powerful.

If you need 32GB to keep 47 Chrome tabs, Discord drama, and your "someday I'll be a streamer" dream running at once — good for you. Live your truth.

But don't confuse your hobby with universal necessity.
Not everyone is trying to optimize frame rates to escape the brutal lag of reality.

16GB is enough for people who have actual workloads and actual lives.

If you have prime, this model is coming up at $244.75 with the 10% discount.

I would however take it all the way to check out as I had a mysterious $95 discount making my total $176.76. Not sure how I got that discount. I tried it on my other Amazon account, and it didn't work. The one I ordered was from Kamrui, and no rewards were used. I did order the one in this thread on the 15th, so it might be a targeted brand promotion? I was going to post that deal but I haven't been able to replicate it.
