I had one of these and liked it, but I'm a gshock fan. However the software is pretty terrible. Of course you shouldn't expect Apple Watch or WearOS functionality, but what is there is hampered by a pretty awful app. Take for example notifications -- you have the option of turning them on, so you get every notification from every app on your phone, or off completely. If you want to selectively have notifications show up on your watch so it isn't buzzing every minute, you have to use the phone OS feature to limit what apps' notifications the Casio app has access to, which will be dependent on the OS if you can even do that. If you have a lot of apps you'll need to manually turn everything off and then selectively turn them on, and if you install another app it'll default as on so you have to manually turn it off.

So get it only if you like gshocks enough to deal with a crappy app and want some smartwatch and fitness features.

(or so this was the case about a year ago when I last used it)

I also have one of these. This is a pretty good deal if it meets your very specific needs. I want a watch that has an always-on face and does step counting. I don't want to have to charge it every day. The heartrate measurement is nice but not necessary. Same with sleep tracking. I don't really care about other "smart" features. If you fit in this category, this is a nice watch.

That said, overall I like this watch. I keep heartrate tracking on all the time and I only have to charge it about once per week. I like the medium-large display, that it's always-on, and it shows my step counts too, without having to dig through menus (this is configurable). The app is just okay... not great but not terrible. I don't love that the display is basically the "dark mode" of watches (time and other display is white on black instead of the usual black on white) and navigating through the different modes of the watch is sluggish compared to my other casios. I wouldn't pay full price for this, but for under $200, it fits my needs well.

I love casio watches but any bluetooth casio watch is outclassed by the garmin instinct.

Probably not what most would define as a "smart watch".

its not a smart watch. when you click on the link it doesnt say that it's a smart watch. the title is deceptive. Casio no longer makes smart watches.

can you help me understand the category? fitbits are under $100, always on, count steps and monitor heart rate. Is this better at those things? What does this bring to the table for almost $200 to overcome a mediocre app, dark display and sluggish response you don't like?

This replaced my Fitbit Charge 5. To have the always-on display with the Fitbit, I had to charge it daily, and after 6 months or so, the always-on display wouldn't even make it through a full day anymore.

It's pretty thick. You can take off the bezel and that helps a lot with the thickness and overall size, but unless you also replace the band, it looks dumb that way. Also, GShock pureists hate the bezel removed. Personally I don't mind the bezel-less look.

Thank you for this 👆. SD could use more honest feedback from users like you instead of users bashing deals and asking all types of technical questions they should ask the vendors.
