Wera makes solid tools, though I've never been a huge fan of their screwdrivers. This one is an exception, it's incredible.

The new ratcheting mechanism is excellent: It has a natural selection (flip the collar to select the direction you want to drive/ratchet) and low backdrag (it ratchets at lower force too, which is probably why it feels loose but why get a ratcheting screwdriver if it can't ratchet well). You can also use the direction selector collar to drive the screw by hand without changing your grip. Of the several bitholders I own, this and its smaller cousin are by far my favorite.

The built-in Wera Rapidaptor bit holder isn't my favorite design overall as it is a bit sloppy, but it does support Japanese bits, which is a big plus. This driver and the Vessel Impact Ball Torsion Bit sets are a match made in heaven*.

The 52-piece set gives a better range of Phillips, Torx, and hex bits, and you can even fit the screwdriver in the case if you pull a few bits out, but 30+1 piece is much more compact, think the size of Wera toolcheck. If you don't have other bits, get the 52 piece kit; if you do, then get the 30+1

All in all, for around $60–80 total, this combo gives you a fantastic setup for both small and larger jobs. The Wera driver with the Vessel 52-bit set would be my top pick for anyone who just wants one really good screwdriver and bit kit.

*Vessel's sets are great because they don't overload you with redundant #2 Phillips bits — you actually get small Phillips heads, plus more Torx and hex options. The alloy is high quality and the bits are longer which is generally nice but especially fantastic with with a short bitholding driver like the above Wera. If you want more reach, a Vessel extension works fine. Just note that the bits are Japanese fit, so not every American tool chuck will work with them — but the integrated Rapidaptor here or a separate Rapidadaptor put in a powertool chuck fits them perfectly.

I have one, not really a huge fan as the huge quick release head blocks a lot of access. I'm much happier with Picquic style screwdrivers with long bits

The craftsman ratcheting screw drive posted earlier this week is great. The ratchet mechanism continues to drive the bit when going backwards.

I usually hate screwdrivers like this bc the bits can be hard to get to and the ratcheting mechanism isn't that great but I absolutely love this tool. It's solid, it opens with a nice tight spring and the bits are easily accessible and easy to swap out. Love being able to just grab this if I need a screwdriver for something but I'm not sure what size I need

The 838 RA-S magnetic holder version might solve that.
@ World Wide Cyclery for $22.44 with code BLOWOUT2025 and free shipping. I haven't ordered from there in years, but they used to be great (reddit says they're still legit).
