Having multiple waterproof pairs from Merrell I can tell you that the ventilation of these shoes is horrible. So it is selling point for 2 reasons: they have many many models that actually are waterproof AND people who buy their brand sometimes actually want the non waterproof shoes because of the above issue. So it is good to mention that in advance and not deal with returns and unhappy people who forgot to check.

If weather or climate doesn't call for it. I prefer non waterproof. As "breathable" as gortex is it does not breathe as well as non waterproof

I actually bought these used for $40 and love them. I normally wear a 10 in shoes but I got a 9.5 and they fit perfect

I just got these last week for a few dollars more. Fantastic beginner barefoot shoes (wide toebox/zero drop). Sole is thick enough for comfort but you still have decent contact with ground. Feels great as my daily driver now. Been trying to get into the barefoot thing for foot/knee issues. Tempted to get another pair, but the remaining colors are pretty ugly in my opinion.

EDIT: I wear a size 10 (10.5 in Nikes) and the size 10's fit perfect for me.

Absolutely. Virtually no long distance hikers use waterproof shoes. "Waterproof" shoes have this serious design flaw in a giant hole in the top your ankle goes through. Once water gets in, there is no good way to dry them on the trail. I go camping with Scouts about once a month and every few campouts a kid with new "waterproof" shoes ends up wearing essentially buckets of water for the weekend because his or her shoes won't dry. My non-waterproof trail runners dry, on my feet, in about an hour.

Really need the wide width to be on sale, too. Not everyone wears medium width.

I've never had Merrell shoes. Would these be good for everyday use (walking, errands, light hiking)? How do they compare in quality to other sneakers like Adidas/Nike/NB?

Should be good for walking. They have a grippy sole so also good for light hiking. Not good for running. Every persons feet are different so you never know if they will be comfortable until you try them on. Probably these would be as cushioning as many popular lightweight running shoes.

These hiking shoes have a grippy/sticky outsole which helps prevent slipping on slick surfaces. The downside is that they wear out faster on normal pavement surfaces that people walk on every day. I don't wear shoes these types of shoes unless the weather and/or terrain requires it.

This.

It's an expensive option for those that walk mostly on pavement.

I bought my first pair of "real" hiking boots many years ago that were Merrells and I've been a huge fan ever since. My wife and I both have purchased many pairs of various kinds of shoes from hiking boots to hiking shoes to my wife's strappy sandals and we have never been disappointed. Highly recommend this brand. The extra cost is totally worth it for quality shoes that last imo
