Check the sales tax charged for your Amazon Haul purchases

Just a heads up that I noticed a few days ago that Amazon is taxing my Haul purchases (and only my Haul purchases) based on the pre-discounted subtotal rather than the actual sales price. Bought some stuff at a big discount and noticed afterward that about 1/3 of the total charged was sales tax. For comparison, the combined city/state sales tax rate where I'm at is 7.375%.
I posted details on Reddit [reddit.com] to try to find out how widespread this is but thought I'd mention it here as a heads-up as well. I know for a fact it's happened to my son in another city, so it's not just a local glitch, and my state doesn't charge sales tax based on pre-discount prices. In 25+ years of buying on Amazon, it's only these Haul deals where this has happened.
