I never had a issue with bootleg software but I have always had MAJOR issues with all the bloatware and spyware that manufactures install on pre purchased laptops and pc's. I wish we could do a clean install of Android on our devices like we can with a PC. This is why I needed to use bootleg copies and to do it legit is too difficult, I don't want to phone Microsoft.
I personally do not understand why it is so cheap... but I will say this is all designed by Microsoft.
This is not the same as buying an OEM key from Newegg or similar. These are keys that have been diverted from a corporation, a school, etc., who bought a license for hundreds. They may have been stolen. They may have been taken from a PC that was using it prior (more on this).
It might work for a while. The likely outcome is it will work... but MS does checks on these keys and the hardware id that they are associated with. No one knows what prompts a check: in my case reinstalling windows to try and fix a problem did. The key I bought a year ago was found to be fraudulent and my license was revoked. I spent hours trying to contact someone at MS, because I THOUGHT this was an OEM key - which means you get to install it on one motherboard; absent that, the license is valid.
I was wrong: the key was first activated in 2018, and had been activated multiple times since then long before I purchased it in 2022. It had been activated something like 7 times in total.
It is unlikely you will be charged with a crime or anything - but it is 100% that MS will flag your account at the very least.
To all the people who are going to comment they are OEM keys, they saw the LTT video, etc. - ask yourself this: if an OEM key for Win 11 Pro sells for $150-200 on Newegg... how in the world are these sites selling them for $3? Why do some of these keys have instructions for you to disconnect from the internet, press certain keyboard keys during install, and or type things into CMD prompt?
If you buy one, and want to find out if it is legit - you can call up MS and ask. What do you have to worry about? There is also a site MS has that allows you to enter the key and check it's status.
Trying to get a refund when you get sold a key that was not able to register your PC (legal issues aside) - let me know how that goes.
I'm not telling anyone what do to, but this is reality. Think whatever helps you sleep at night.
