How does Ryzen 5 stack up?

How about the 8 GB RAM?

This has the infamous Ryzen 5 7520U. It's been rebranded from a 4000 series chip to a 7000 series. The 7000 series is 2 years old now. And it's only a quad core so it should be called Ryzen 3, not 5.

Older and chunky and if correctly stated that the RAM is not upgradeable it should be cheaper.

Can't imaging a 17" laptop has no upgradable RAM. That's stupid design.

Not 100% accurate; it's the same logical design, but fab is smaller and as a result slight design tweaks were made. It is more power efficient than the 4000 series.

The i3-1315u in the Asus Vivo book that best buy had at $200 a few days ago is much faster than the 7520u.

And an E-bike from today is faster than a motorcycle from 40 years ago. The 7520u was already on the shelf for 4-5 months before the 1315u came out, and it also costs less. It also competed with Core I7 chips from the prior gen, so ....? 4 months is a long time for products that get redesigns just about every year.

There are numerous differences between any two laptops, processor is just one of them. If that's all you care about, you're not doing yourself any favors shopping in this price range.

Ugh. 8gb is almost useless on windows 11 and it's made worse because Ryzen uses shared system ram for video memory so realistically it's 6gb of ram. Ugh. This will run out of ram doing basic tasks

It is not a rebranded chip from the 4000 series, the 4000 series is a 7 nm chip, this is a 6 nm chip, this is using DDR5 with RDNA graphics. Not Vega graphics from 4000. Please stop sharing lies and misinformation

I am giving this a thumbs down just because of 8gb of RAM. If this was 150$ cheaper I'd say it makes more sense as a budget cheapy laptop for basic tasks. You would have to put windows on a super strict diet of disabling most of the services just so you can run your email and chrome without it running out of ram
