Usually, yes. My recommendation is to set them to be picked up at two different stores and then just don't pick up the one you don't want, then you don't have to deal with actually returning it

The return "hack" is usually for people who already have a charger/battery.

Or you can return the tool instead, depending on which you want anyway.

I saw the item I wanted the 3in cut off tool for $99 after returning the batteries. Good deal but should I wait to see other black friday deals?

I don't think you can keep the tool. Per the bill discount dollars apply to each item. So if you return the tool. You still gotta pay for battery , just bit less due to discount.

Or visa versa if you return the battery.
