Hi, my 10-year-old son is looking to get started using a 3-D printer. Would this be a good model to start with?

Not amazing but not completely garbage. Something like Bambu P1S will be faster to get started on and probably less annoying over time. Their black Friday prices are quite good right now. https://us.store.bambulab.com/pro..._p1_detail

I'd personally take the Bambu P1S Combo at this price point.

You have to pay for the cloud service to use this?

That's lame!

No. Get the Bambu lab P1S Combo with AMS 2 PRO, $600 but worth it. It does not require premium cloud service subscriptions to download 3D models

Get the Bambu P1S combo with AMS 2 Pro (combo is with AMS) and then he can print out up to 4 color models without having to change filament. I wish these things were around when I was 10 years old! That would be a blast for a 10 year old!!

100% pick the p1s combo at this price, especially since can be picked up locally at best buy

No, you don't have to pay for a cloud service to use a Creality printer. But that doesn't mean they wont try to sell you on one.

I own a K2 Plus with 2 CFS systems (aka a bigger version of this one that has been upgraded so that it can print with 8 colors) and while it is generally a good printer, I can't say it is as beginner friendly as Bambu Labs printers are reported to be. That being said, Bambu Labs is the Apple of the 3D Printer world, and will try to lock you into their own walled garden ecosystem as much as possible. Creality (and other brands like Qidi, Elegoo, Sovol, etc) printers tend to be a bit more open with what slicers you can use with them, but that freedom comes with a slightly steeper learning curve.

tldr: This is a good price for this printer/CFS combo, and no one would be disappointed to have this gifted to them, but be prepared to do a bit of learning afterwards to get the most out of it.
