"We're really sorry we have to say this, but somehow, we ran out of stock on that thing you ordered. It was our fault and we're sorry. Your order has been cancelled just like it never happened and you weren't charged. You may see a pending authorization hold, however. This should expire in a few days."

Every email like that should come with a $5 credit for use on a future order. It's not rocket science for them to keep up with their inventory levels.

Yeah this one is a bit of a goat rope. Some good deals here but it shouldn't be so hard to make it through checkout. A 20 minute courtesy hold when you add an item to cart would eliminate a lot of disappointment.

In my case, what they were saying was "sold out" wasn't. As far as I can tell, they were having credit card processing issues and canceling the order if the pre-auth didn't go through "fast enough" for them. None of my cards every had a temp charge from woot, so this tells me they had system issues and blamed it on "out of stock"
