FYI, the model on clearance is S10U, which uses Teflon like fluorine containing coating. I bought this one, returned after more research, and got the G10u model which has a ceramic coating.

We use this rice cooker weekly and love it. Can't beat this price if you can find it.

If you don't have a rice cooker, it's worth thinking about one if you eat rice on a weekly basis.. especially at this $39.97 price. Unlikely to ever find a Zojirushi at that price but this should be reasonably close in terms of overall 'performance' and cooked rice quality. Rice is fairly cheap and these make it easy.

am i wrong in thinking that the instapot with its stainless steel pot is the superior option to this?

Rice can/will stick in stainless, sometimes pretty bad.. especially in an instant pot with less precise temperature control. The one time I tried was kind of a nightmare after it browned and stuck. That's never happened in my Zojirushi no matter how long I leave it on 'warm'. Semi-sharp corner & steep side walls in most instant pots make them kind of difficult to clean stuck rice out of, too.

If you primarily make rice, the instant pot won't have as nice a taste or be as convenient so this rice maker is better and more compact. The instant pot is totally fine though if you don'tmake rice at least once a week. It is 90% of way there and slightly faster since pressure cooker. The non nonstick stainless steel on instant pot is plus minus since it sticks to rice but doesn't give you cancer.

Don't feel that way, this is a very hard to find now. If your happy with your rice cooker, that should be enough.

We've owned this for a while and have no complaints. The steam basket is great for baos and for small frozen veggies.
