FYI: if you smash a ground beef patty while it's cooking, you're squeezing the juices out. All of that sizzling sound is your patty getting dry. Especially not advisable while on the grill.

I like juicy burgers of all types. Not saying don't make them thin, I'm saying that you need to think about how beef cooks when doing this, if you don't want dry hockey pucks. If you smash a burger in the middle of a cook cycle (especially on the grill), the moisture is pressed out. If you're going to do this, do it before you cook.

I would prefer a solid one piece metal burger press or at least one made entirely of metal so it could be sanitized in the dishwasher.
