The filters have pre-planned expiry after which the water tastes fishy. But for the while it works, the filtration is good. search for "fishy" on amazon reviews.

Nah, that's not right. I've got two of the bigger pitchers. How long the filters last depends on how much water you use. One pitcher I only use for my coffee and espresso machine. The other is for everyday drinking. The coffee pitcher filter lasts about two and a half months, and the other one about a month.

Thanks for this. Is your water fairly normal, or is fairly hard water?

I know after a while I even get some visible growth in my pitcher unit, I don't know if the filtration process itself keeps the water clean enough to prevent that from happening or if it's just a matter of the environment it's in and time between cleaning, but obviously it doesn't filter a large volume of water. it would be interesting to correlate the tds at the time when things need to be cleaned and of course filter is changed at the same time.

Can anyone explain *how* Zero water works? It's true, I test it with my TDS meter and I get zero. I test my reverse osmosis unit hooked up to my fridge and I get 21 (which is still pretty good, coming from ~550).

There's no way that this dumb little filter is better than RO.

Mold is ever-present and will grow on anything if you give it water.

My water is very hard. I use these water pitchers for all of my water consumption.

I have this. The top of the lid is a pain to remove. You need to press that button in the front to get the lid off.

what's your TDS from faucet and how long does the filter last? Given the price of the filter it may be more cost effective to get filtered water from grocery store or just buy gallon water jugs.

My tap water's TDS is 300. I mentioned my filter life above. I snag my filters from Kohl's when they have their 40% off sale, which is pretty often, like every two or three weeks.

100% echo this. I stopped using them because of this single reason.

I've used a zero water filter for at least a decade if not longer. The filters don't' have a pre-programmed life span, but like any filter it's about how much water you put through them and how many particulates are in your tap water.. I drink between 4-5l of water a DAY that 1.1.25 gallons and it's all going through this filter.. I end up buying 4 filters per year and use about 3 and that works fine. I don't really ever get a filter to the point that it changes the taste of the water. And I buy the filters when they are on sale or using BBB or sometimes Kohl's.. overall it's about 40-50$ a year for filters.

Just gotta get my cart up to $35. I use Zerowater for my humidifiers instead of buying distilled water for the convenience of always having water on hand without buying a bunch of gallons and keeping them in my garage. The current pitcher is just not sufficient.

Zerowater filtration is very good, but make sure you consider the cost of filters before you invest here. Their replacement filters don't last very long.
