Would you trust these on a NAS? The savings is a lot over an exos

You don't "trust" drives if you have data you care about - you set up RAID to survive drive failures and a backup strategy to recover from whole device failures. Enterprise drives give you a false sense of security - yes they fail less often but that doesn't mean you're not going to be the unlucky one.

Not just whole device failures but also malware attacks, operator error, etc...
RAID only buys you uptime in case of drive failure but doesn't protect you from accidental data deletion, software failure, etc... so you have to have a strategy in place. One way to do it is buy 3 drives for one, mirror two and use the third for scheduled backups.

Good price but these r likely cheap undependable barracuda drives. Wouldn't waste my money

Absolutely Under *NO* Circumstances would I trust my data to reside solely on these drives.

Make sure you have a solid backup plan implemented as drives of this density have a tendency to fail at the most inopportune time... particularly Seagate Barracudas.

Personally I've been waiting for the 28TB models to go back on sale for $300 and was considering one or two of these instead at this price... but only to be used as an external backup solution for data stored on my NAS. (As part of the best practice 3-2-1 backup strategy.)

Someone here suggested buying three of these and setup some sort of raid to combat the high failure rates of barracuda. The upfront cost will be cheaper than buying two NAS drives. Who's done that? Can I just buy one NAS drive and one barracuda for redundancy?

I just shucked one of these last night and it was barracuda. I bought 2x 26 WD Red Pro last week and installed in my desktop, and the noise was unbearable. The noise from my 20tb red pro was tolerable so I thought it was the same for the 26tb. I have quite sensitive hearing and it bothers me a lot. Shucked this drive and I'm pleasantly happy with this drive noise profile, transfer speed was also great 240-270 MB/sec. If you have your computer in the bedroom, these drives are worth a look. If planning for a NAS and out of sight location, NAS drive all the way.

I saw these in my local Micro Center earlier today, but they were not discounted. Now, the website says they are no longer carried by my local store.

Yeah just buy 3 and put them in RAID 1. The same data will be copied on all 3 drives. You can survive two drives failing simultaneously that way, which is highly unlikely. Remember , RAID does not protect you against accidental deletion, data corruption etc , so you still need a backup strategy - preferably offsite to protect against catastrophic events like fire, water leaks, power surge/lightning etc.
