Starlink Mini is a compact satellite internet kit that shines for camping, RVs, truck campers, road trips, and backup home internet. It supports multiple devices, has an integrated router, and can run on AC, 12 volt or USB C power, with easy setup and low power draw. Real world reports include smooth YouTube at 360p, 150 to 250 Mbps in a truck camper, and usable gaming latency around 40 ms. The main caveat is plan flexibility, since pause mode is now a $5 standby option with very slow low speed data and possible limits after long inactivity. It is a strong fit when portable internet matters more than full home service.

Common Questions (4)

  • The standby option is a $5/month low-speed mode with unlimited data, but it is too slow for streaming video in some cases. It can still be usable for light browsing or accidental background connectivity, and one report says YouTube at 360p worked without buffering.

  • Yes. It can be used on the roam plan for on-the-go setups like camper vans and RVs, and it has been used successfully in truck campers and road trips. Real-world reports include stable service for remote work and camping use.

  • Yes. The Best Buy app has a price match guarantee button on the order page, and it has been used to get $70 back on purchases made about 18 to 30 days earlier. The adjustment is not automatic, but it can be requested quickly.

  • Yes. The Mini has an integrated router and can support multiple devices connected at the same time. More connected devices will use data faster, so a higher-tier plan may be needed sooner.

Can you only activate the plan occasionally when needed or is there a minimum plan length?
There's a $5 low-speed plan too.

You know, I looked at the bandwidth requirements and thought I could, but in practice even trying to do that was not a good experience. Experience may vary though.
I thought the 5Mbps Standby plan would be slow too. But recently I accidentally connected to its WiFi while working, and supprisingly it worked fine without me realizing it. My Mini was even on the dash of my car, under a windshield cover.

hey, that's great! When I tried it out it was pretty bad ... bad enough to abandon my dreams of infinite standby data ... though I haven't revisited it. I'm going to guess it varies a lot.

If you have Costco and really want to milk this:
  • Buy $200 of Uber gift cards from Costco for $159.98 (the max they will sell you in a 2 week period)
  • Select this Starlink mini in Uber Eats from Best buy. Total charge, including tax and delivery, is $247.49 plus tip
  • If you order your Uber Eats delivery in advance (like for delivery tomorrow), I believe they'll give you another $2 off, so now $245.49
  • $200 of that will only cost you $159.98 because of the gift cards. Plus the remaining $45.49. That's $205.47 out of pocket (including tax but not including tip) compared to purchasing direct from Best Buy for $250.04 (including tax, and no tip needed).
Your numbers will be a little different due to tax differences, but it's a decent savings.
Also check your Uber Eats account for any retail promotions. When I bought my Starlink through this method a couple months ago, I also had a $40 off retail promo in there too.

Well, I don't know, I happen to have a plus membership anyway. You know they're probably pretty cool if you just ask because honestly, they're not getting any actual product back open box, the rebate comes from the manufacturer, so I don't see the problem.

Will this work with multiple devices connected and streaming at once? Say a tv streaming and several iPads ? Just curious if the device or the data plan decide that?

Thanks OP! I bought for $299 a month ago and went on the Best Buy app then to my order and it had a price match guarantee button. Hit that and it found the lower price on their site and I got $70 back.

I love how easy BB makes after purchase price adjustments. Would only be better if it was done automatically.
