I think the AD5M is a better comparison straight out of the box, in which case the AD5M is the winner as it's $40 cheaper and arguably a better printer, but it doesn't get you into the Bambu ecosystem, if that's super important. But, also, the AD5X is also the winner here, as again, CoreXY and built in color for only marginally more. (they have been going for around $250-260 these days).

I own both AD5M and AD5X and I'm pretty happy with them.
I have an 5M and I'm considering a 5X. How well do multicolor models from MakerWorld work on the 5X? The site seems heavily geared towards BamboLabs printers.

Is this good for a novice? I don't care if its slow, noise, etc...want to know about usability and price on the long term (Like printer you gotta look at the ink cost than the printer's cost).

Idk anything about 3d printing but bought many Arkham Horror LCG games and looking at Etsy but interested in trying to print for all my board games!
If you have the extra in your budget then go with the A1 instead of the mini. I have the mini and wished I bought the A1.

You must be either extremely lucky or use cutting-edge filament coz my p1s even got prints that came off the PEI plate during mid print a few times Big Grin
Nah. He's right. At least that's also been my experience. I just clean my plate every time before printing. The only issue I've had with my A1M was stringing but that was due to wet filament and not the printer. 👍

This is a fantastic printer for a novice, and a great price for the value it provides. THAT SAID, I got the full size A1 and I'm glad I did, because there have definitely been times where I printed something that wouldn't have fit on an A1 mini bed. It's also nicer for large batches of small items because you can cram more onto the plate.

So, while this is a great little printer, I would still recommend bumping up to the full size A1.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

Needs to be made clearer: AMS Lite not included and will cost as much as the whole printer if you try to buy it separately.
Fairly annoying they show a multicolor print on the bed, when what you're buying cannot print that.

On the former, maybe? My kids do most of the printing tbh. On the latter? Not sure if there's anything "cutting edge" about Bambu PETG, PLA, and PLA Matte....cuz that's all we use, and I bought most of it 6+ months ago (and don't even use a dryer).

The biggest issue I've had was a big blob of PETG filling the silicone sock around the hot end and getting injected into all of the areas around the printhead. I think that happened when one of the kids tried to clean up a failed print from a model that needed supports, and the sock got twisted and covered the nozzle outlet (and they didn't notice). That was a mess, but I managed to clean it up by heating up the nozzle in maintenance mode, and using q-tips/toothpicks to get the melted filament blobs out. It's been working fine ever since.

At the end of the day, 3D printing is not 100% foolproof. TBH, even conventional printing still has its annoying issues crop up, like leaking toners, dried cartridges, clogged nozzles, paper jams, etc. It's the nature of the beast.

Not bad; you notice the drop down arrow to the right of the "Open in Bambu Studio" buttons -> that gives one the option to download 3MF instead, which work well with OrcaSlicer. Personally, I'm more comfortable with Printables.com - a lot more feedback from people using open printers - but I'm sure that there are models that people have only published on MakerWorld, and vice-versa.

Got the flashforge M5 for $155. It's bigger, Core XY, prints better, and can easily print an enclosure. Only downside is that Bambu has better software. If you just want something that's a slick deal, get the Flashforge M5.

If you have the money get the P1S. I don't have the A1 series but wow Bambu just does it right.

They work fine. You sometimes need to make a few adjustments in the slicer.

For anyone that has bought the combo with the AMS, does the AMS come in a separate box? Or are the A1 Mini and AMS in a single box (for a gift)?

My apologies, I came across the box when cleaning out my garage and the A1 Mini + AMS came in the same box. I remember getting multiple packages, but when I ordered last year there was also filament included in my deal, as well as some maker kits. I'm guessing I remember those arriving in separate boxes. Sorry : /
