Why can't I find anything on this TV? Was it just released?

This looks better or the same to the 98Q651G.

Dolby Vision IQ - added
~500 kWh/year vs 600kWh/year - more efficient.
288 VRR vs 240 VRR - does this even matter lol?

Biggest outliner: 4× HDMI 2.0 vs (2× HDMI 2.1 + 2× HDMI 2.0) on the 98Q651G 🥴
I hope that's a mistake.

If you don't get confirmed HDMI 2.1 or 4K120Hz + 12‑bit, you'll still get excellent performance (4K60Hz, 4K up to maybe 120Hz at 10/8‑bit, the QLED panel etc) but maybe not the full "top tier gaming spec" so I wouldn't buy it for gaming, it's a 98" TV for 1K.

For true gaming I would probably get a true dedicated gaming monitor. I don't own this TV "yet" but when it arrives I can tell you better. My wife is going to hate me for this LOL....

No HDMI 2.1 means no 4K120hz 12-bit....?
It's got to be an error on Best Buy's listing, as they're known to do a lot. If you look at the image gallery, the side shot that shows the HDMI ports shows HDMI 1 and 2 show 144Hz. Best Buy should update the text

I've been eyeing this thing all morning and finally pulled the trigger. I'm fairly certain the the 4 HDMI 2.0 ports is a typo. All evidence points to it being two 2.0 ports and two 2.1 ports. The photo of the ports in the listing shows two ports labeled "4K/144hz" and the other two labeled "4k/60hz." 4k at 144hz VRR is not possible on HDMI 2.0. Not to mention the inclusion of eARC. While eARC can be implemented on HDMI 2.0, it seems unlikely in 2025.

Was aiming for a mini-LED set, but $999 is hard to pass up when I'm not exactly a videophile. Crossing my fingers it's a good TV, but if not, I can always return it (after renting a box truck...) Now, how do I break this news to my wife?

Is mid tier in 2025 better than Top tier 2021? If you compare a decent 2025 mid‑tier TV to a 2021 TV that was "top of the line" then, the newer mid‑tier may offer better brightness, better HDR effect, more up‑to‑date features, and definitely a better value. And don't forget a recent agreement has suspended heightened reciprocal tariffs on imports from China until November 10, 2026. So next years 100" under 1K might not happen next black Friday.
This is the question I've been dealing with. I have a 75" q80r from 2019 which was a top of the line Samsung at the time. It's showing it's age even though the picture is still nice. I'm debating getting the huge size upgrade but a mid-tier tcl. From everything I've read, the md-tier TCL would still be an upgrade based on the newer tech.

Not a bad deal for those looking for this size tv, however... nothing screams "inventory clear out" or has been "on shelf far too long" than a 98' TCL for $1,000. Again, good for those who need/want it. If you are a gamer somebody looking for more quality/performance 'y advice would be too HOLD. BF and EOY sales are just getting started.

Possibly, but I don't think it's existing inventory. There's no information on it anywhere. Instead I think it's new and specifically made for Best Buy as an entry-level TV they could sell for the holidays. My guess is it's a repackaging of some older tech to reach the price point. I could be wrong, though. Guess I'll find out.

majority of people here arent gamers. They want biggest to price ratio. This isnt just a "nad a bad deal" this is a GREAT freaking deal. 98" for 1000 shipped. Its lowest to date that isnt refurb or open box or some crap.

I'm really tempted to grab this 98" TCL TV to replace my 2019 Samsung 75" Quantum, but the stand's minimum width is 71.21" and that's a bit of a problem for me, lol.
