I tried switching from wyze to tapo but tapos app ahd problems so i ended up switching back. Tapo app seems to go to sleep after 2 weeks or so and stops sending you notifications if i just open the app the notification resumes but i never know when it stops. Also the memory card on the tapo cameras needs to be formatted every few months. It just stops recording for no reason. If i format the card it works again but that is also annoying. I guess all this is fine if you're constantly checking your cameras but if you only check them when you need to they never seem to be working when i need them.

This is most definitely your phone setting to somehow stop background activity by the app. Never had this issue on my iPhone/Android for the past 3 yearsNotifications are fast and object detections are almost perfect

Tapo solar cam doesn't give you 24 hour recording. Might want to consider hardwired if you want to do 24 hr recording. Solar ones do record at motion trigger. Note that they were late at motion recordings and got somewhat better with firmware updates.

So you get a text only notification if someone triggers a camera, no picture, no face recognition name etc. You them need to click on it, and watch the recording, which can take a minute to save and buffer

Compare this to eufy, wyze, baseus, etc etc, which all just send you a notification snapshot of the person

Pretty sure you need a subscription for any advanced features for any cams

The Reolink smaller cameras are good like you said with plenty of sun. Now the Reolink PTZ cameras shouldn't run off solar panels, they consume a lot of power especially if high sensitivity is selected. I installed a PRZ Reolink at my friend's house, right on top of the garage and he has to take it down and charge it quite often. I told him the work around is to get power from a side light he has, just run a long cable from the camera to a light bulb socket adapter. Tried telling him to install a proper outdoor outlet but he is the type that shies away from any alterations to the house because of the wife.

Tapo offers every second snapshots to make it look like 24x7 recording. Only reolink truly offers 24x7 and wyze's battery cam pro which lasts less than a day.

Wyze gives you a "rich" notification but no video. Their AI detections are paywalled, their camera hardware is inferior

It does not take a minute, it takes maybe 3 seconds (tapo user of 15 cameras).

Eufy does yes, but also costs 3x as much and they have very slow playback of clips

One thing to fully understand, "rich notifications" means those images are stored on the companies cloud server and not local (just look up eufy's debacle with this claim and they got caught)

not for rich notifications.. owning 3 of the systems (for different houses) tapo is the only one that does not give them.

they are all in a similar price bracket if you wait for sales. Eufy is probably the most expensive of the bunch, but even they run constant rotating sales with additional cashback promos through amazon.

Good to know. I couldn't get it to work with my Wyze cameras. I even bought their motion sensor and it only worked 50% of the time.I was trying to my garage light turn on automatically with movement.
