I bought the lens this one is accused of copying off of. The Tamron 35-150. Heard they are very close to identical but that the Samyang is lower quality build somehow and that it has more focusing problems. Not sure if focusing was addressed in firmware updates. I don't know how big a difference build quality is.
What I DO know is the Tamron lens was $1250 before tax used from a reputable camera store. And I also know I REALLY like this lens. I got rid of a nice Sigma 28 mm (nice but heavy) and a Sony 50 mm f2.8 that was very compact but not one I liked much. This lens is amazing for its versatility for me to shoot events, such as weddings. It's heavy, but I do resistanxe training and am a big boy so I prefer it over carrying multiple lenses and changing often.
I pair my Tamron with a 14 mm Sony GM and I feel like I'm in heaven.
Looking to grab a 16-30 mm f2.8 to have more versatility and keep 14 mm for group shots or other speciality shots. I just like the ultra wide too darn much!

I think the build quality difference is pretty big. I saw more samyang ones sold as is on ebay that are not optically damaged, and samyang obviously sold a lot less copies than Tamron. You should be careful to not let it take a lot of shear force, both the mount and extending mechanism are easy to fail. I suppose big boy waving hand that carries the camera and lens could cause problem.

I have heard that Samyang DID have quality issues when the lens was first released, but that they have since resolved them. As for any focusing problems, I imagine that it is important for the lens to have the latest firmware. I have the Samyang 135mm from the Amazon deal posted on Slick Deals a few weeks ago, and updating the firmware seemed to have made a real difference in autofocus performance.
I've watched numerous reviews on YouTube for the 35-150mm, and most of them are quite favorable. Personally, I decided to give the lens a try. If I'm not happy, I will return it.
