I was looking at dishwashers yesterday at Lowe's and the sales associate told me specifically not to buy this one. He said there was a leaking problem on several he has sold.

I know everything's so much more expensive and I remember they used to take the old one away for free. Times have changed for the worst 😭

Midea is like Hisense and Haier; huge in China but basically considered off-brand here. Funny thing is people don't use dishwashers in China, so any dishwashers they design and built are mostly for the North American market. I can't imagine them selling many of these and I wouldn't be surprised if they pull out of making dishwashers altogether. So while the company is huge, people who bought their dishwashers may lose product support.

That's helpful. When I clicked on this, it wasn't because I was in the market, but because I wanted to see stories like this - my immediate thought was that this was a "brand name" house-flipper dishwasher, more or less, sans the "brand name".

It looks like some of these parts get sold as "Danby", "Insignia", and "Kenmore" (which totally tracks with my thoughts on people's enthusiasm for the latter):

Midea is not really what you think it is. They are about 3 times larger than Whirlpool (who owns Maytag, Whirlpool, Amana and KitchenAid). They make the vast majority of microwave ovens in the world and they are sold with everyone else's logo on them (GE, Whirlpool, etc... none of them manufacture there own microwave ovens anymore). They also are an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for many manufacturers, the biggest of which is GE Appliances (who is actually owned by Haier now). If you own a GE appliance, the majority of the parts are probably made by Madea, then assembled in the US. Madea is Huge. They aren't going anywhere.
