Now or wait for Black Friday? Had my eye on this for a while now and it's the lowest I've seen it (here and Best Buy)

Not saying this isn't a great buy but for awareness I believe the Epix line has been discontinued. Unsure how long updates outside of bug fixes will continue.

What's recommendation if not Epix line? Is fenix 7 pro good alternative?

It was discontinued in terms of the naming system because it was identical to the Fenix 7 pro with the exception of the AMOLED screen. For 2024, they released the watches under the Fenix 8 name and distinguished between the different screen material.

Now, I am sure it's not going to be that cheap on Black Friday.

If you want the amoled screen and don't care about updates, get this. If you want the new os update and possible future features, get the Fenix 8.

Scheels has had this price for a long time. There is Amex offer for it as well, and if you have multiple you can stack by buying physical gift cards in store.

There are also huge cashback offers on some famous cb site.

I net one for ~$300 OTD after stacking the above, which is pretty sweet. Very nice watch, I have always been a 51mm guy but never realize 47mm would be so much "wearable". Also the battery is much better than I expected.

I'm rocking a 6x year old garmin forunner. They still do software updates. I had one this last week.

While you will get updates to your watch 6 year old Garmins are not getting feature enhancement updates, they're getting security updates and bug "fixes" only. I have a Garmin Forerunner 955 I got 3 years ago and the last update actually killed my battery life to 2-3 days (was getting almost 2 weeks prior). They introduced a bug and I didn't see any feature enhancements.

I don't have a specific watch to recommend at this time but have started looking at Coros and Suunto as possible alternative brands to replace my Garmin 955 Forerunner. I previously had a Suunto (Ambit3 Peak) and at that time their android app was terrible (couldn't control notifications b/w apps) but their new app is supposedly much better so considering them again. Garmin has started to put things behind their subscriptions and worry they'll do even more in the future so I'm personally considering something outside the Garmin ecosystem.

Why would I want updates outside of bug fixes? I only need the features I'm buying to begin with, and they have some relatively basic apps if I need something else.
