It's a bit disappointing that the price only went down by 50. I was expecting this would go down to 250 or less.

I have the 245 that I bought second hand for $85. Is it worth upgrading? My only gripe is the mapping/route functionality.

It depends on how you use your watch and what features you think are missing from the 245. Despite the small model number difference, the 265 is quite a bit better than the 245. See these comparison pages for more:

Any good replacement/third party bands for these? I've read complaints about the sizing not matching up exactly.

i use an "ANNEFIT" nylon band with a normal clasp for my 265s. been about a year and a half, ran a marathon and a few half marathons with it, no complaints. also got a "OANUX" elastic braided nylon band more recently, which i will sometimes use for a softer feel.
I have 3 or 4 "Archer" watch bands in canvas and nylon for my vivomove style, that i've used for a year or two. I swap out regularly to match what i'm wearing, no failures yet.
All bought on amazon.
I also use the official Garmin leather bands for my vivomove style and the official Garmin nylon band for my Fenix 5 plus, and honestly, there's not much difference in fit.

you may want to look into the 265s vs the 265, as the 245 sits between the 265 and the 265s in size.
regarding the mapping/routes, it's honestly probably about the same, since its mostly done on app for this line of watch . I think the big changes would be longer battery life, more satellite trackers (theoretically more accurate tracking), added metrics/sports (yay ultimate frisbee!), and an OLED screen (this one is preference, i've read a bunch about people who still prefer the older style MIP screens)
anecdotally, as a casual runner/frisbee player, i switched from a fenix 5 plus to a forerunner 265s, and i prefer the OLED screen, and i'm glad there is a specific sport for me to track now, but tbh a lot of it feels the same in the day to day. if you have specific issues with the mapping/routing, feel free to pm and i can see if its any different on mine, it might be a bit snappier but i'd wager the system is largely the same.

Garmin uses standard straps. Any strap company should be a good replacement. You just need to figure out which size you need depending on the size watch you get.

If it's all the same, buy it from Kohl's. You get $60 Kohl's cash. The stock comes and goes. I was able to grab mine yesterday after it was back in stock.

Bought this second hand for $250 earlier in the year. Good deal imo at this price.

I do sometimes wonder if I should've gotten the Venu 3 still, but I'm happy with my purchase.

if you are a serious runner, the factory refurb version of the FR570 should be available in few months and it's WAY more watch and the features will be supported/bug fixed for three more years, unlike the 265

these are the newest flagship versions of Garmin

Forerunner 570
Forerunner 970
Fenix 8
Tactix 8
Enduro 3

570 has a list of $550 now

that means factory refurb will be within $300 very soon

Good to know, do you buy refurbs direct or track the model on Amazon/etc?

I cannot believe how painfully overpriced this watch is still. It was going for this price last Christmas season.
If you want this model, go for it. Might not get much lower. But there are newer models from other brands and in some cases with more features for less money.
It is the only fitness watch you're going to get Spotify on unfortunately.

there are a few well known resellers of factory refurbs like GPSNATION which either have their own website or through amazon/ebay etc.

I never buy Garmin new, always factory refurb because they are perfectly clean like new

plus the secret is that even after warranty expires on a factory refurb you can often talk support into replacing something that's gone wonky for another year

the single biggest feature to me of the 570 vs 265 is the cpu is so powerful on the 570 that it can run FOUR CIQ datafields which are like custom apps for your activities, all previous Garmins can only run two which can be limiting
