Has anyone ever tried the aftermarket batteries? Are they any good at all?

Agreed, with the batteries & charger this is an endorsed purchase. I have two and have been using 8+ years for small cleanup jobs: dry leaves or cleaning the concrete areas of leaves wet and dry. Lite enough for taking onto the house roof to rid of the leaves.

We've had the 80v kobalt blower for a few years now. It works great, but the batteries suck. Our 2 amp hour battery is still holding on, but it is not 100%. Our 2.5 amp battery bit the dust a couple of seasons ago. We replaced it with an aftermarket battery which now is significantly diminished. I've bought some individual cells to rebuild the 2.5 amp battery, but I haven't gotten around to it. We use the batteries in the blower, trimmer, and edger. The 80v greenworks batteries won't fit in the kobalt unless you change the housing bottom so the tongue and grooves match.

Now this could partially be my family's fault. Lithium batteries are happiest around 50% charge. Don't fully charge them unless you're about to use them. I've told my Dad this several times, but it doesn't stick.

They work with a bit of modding. Essentially you have to remove a bit of plastic from the battery to make it fit. I have an 80v greenworks chainsaw and kobolt leaf blower. Modded both batteries so they fit both devices. Youtube it and you will find some videos.

I have a kobalt 80v self propelled mower which I couldn't recommend enough that uses the same battery. Three seasons in and both 2.5 batteries that came with it have had zero issues and still going strong

If its this one, then good to know. I bought it, but haven't used it yet. The batteries are much bigger than the 2.5 you mention - https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-8...5016127293

So no Greenworks either (since they make Kobalt)? Please advise why not.

Get an electric corded and a long quality extension cord if you have a large yard. Not worth playing with batteries for serious house work...and save $100
