I thought I knew everything my local library offered - free e-books, audiobooks, portable hotspots, and more. Then I stumbled upon something unexpected: free annual passes to a local garden attraction with tickets that normally cost $20+ per person. That discovery inspired me to research what other libraries across the country offer.
Disclaimer: I am NOT affiliated with any library system beyond being a fellow taxpayer and library cardholder. This list covers many states but is not exhaustive - some states do not have readily searchable programs, and your local library may have programs not listed here, so check with them directly.
Many public libraries offer free or discounted passes to local museums, parks, zoos, cultural attractions, and more. This comprehensive guide documents programs across 32 states covering over 1,000 venues - all URLs tested and working.
Finding More Programs: Use your library's search function - search for terms like "museum pass", "culture pass", "discovery pass", or "experience pass".
Note - The
Georgia library passes page had issues, (they all return WordPress errors as of this posting), but they started working again. Hopefully it is just a temporary blip, and if you do get an error, then try again later.
What You Get:- FREE admission to 1,000+ museums, zoos, gardens, historic sites, and state parks
- Access with just your library card (usually free with residency proof)
- Digital passes (print at home) OR physical passes (check out at library)

I learned about this program last week myself and was amazed at how much the library eco system offers in my state.
Ended up taking kids and family to a museum which I would never go to if I have to pay...
