5070 system for $1500 is bit high. 5070 system was around $1100 at Walmart a month ago.

This is the system you are talking about:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/iBUYPO...&sharedid=
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-cores, 16-threads (4.2GHz Base / 5.0GHz Boost) Processor
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 12GB Graphics
  • 32GB DDR5-5200MHz RGB RAM
  • 1TB M.2 NVMe Solid State Drive
  • 750W 80 PLUS Gold PSU
  • iBUYPOWER AW4 360mm ARGB Liquid Cooler
  • iBUYPOWER Element 9 PRO Gaming Case
  • Windows 11 Home

It is currently $1299 and was $1199 back in September. There are three differences, the CPU is upgraded, two year warranty, and the SSD is 2tb vs 1tb.

It is probably worth $200 more, so you are getting your money's worth. But I don't think the 9800X3D will make much real world gaming difference over the 7800X3D. The 7800X3D is still one of the best gaming CPU's made.

I personally purchased the 7800X3D version as real world the systems will have similar performance for $200 less. But this 9800X3D is certainly not overpriced and is a TON of computer for the money. Very good deal for the money.

Yes, a ton of computer for the money with two year warranty.

This would be considered very good gaming computer. It will run any game they will need for at least 6 years. There are some more and less expensive, but this is a very good mid-level computer if you have $1500 to spend.

Other option from Walmart [walmart.com] would be similar performance for $200 less but you lose some CPU power, 1tb of storage and the second year of warranty. I bought this one and tried it to ensure no issue for Christmas and it's an absolute beast for $1300.

I bought a Dell XPS 8950 a few years ago thinking to avoid having to shop around for parts.
Then I found I out that Dell does custom made components, so I couldn't just drop any vid card upgrade or a new PSU.

Does iBUYPOWER/MSI/Cyberpower do the same thing?

Goal is to get a good deal on an upgrade with a case that I can possibly re-use.

Definitely good for VR.But I think only Meta Air Link supports wired mode, and in my experience it seems like they purposefully make Steam VR run poorly through Air Link, but it could be just me. Streaming from PC to headset is also an option with Steam Link (free) or Virtual Desktop (paid in Meta store), but it can be trickier to setup.

This is definitely the way to go. They use all off the shelf products. My sons iBUYPOWER I just bought has a ASUS B650 Max Gaming mother board, PNY 5070 GPU, Corsair RAM and so on. Power supply, cables, etc are all standard. The power supply just unscrews and slide out, easy replacement.

Check out their website to build one, you can see they type of parts they use.

On the 7800 iBUYPOWER people were reporting MSI or ASUS motherboards.

Costco had a lot of different sales dates in their BF flyer.

Question for computer guys: I see lots of seemingly "good deals" on Newegg but with brands I've never heard of. If the components are the same as, for example, this Ibuypower why not get the unknown brand from Newegg?

Stupid question, but is a Costco membership needed to get this price on the 17th? I don't have one near me and have no clue what I'd do with the membership afterward.
