The point of the 8 pro is the inReach stuff. Of course it's considerably more! If that's not important to you I can see no reason for the 8 pro.
You get satellite connectivity with the Ultra Watch 3. In fact, the reviews I've seen make it seem better than InReach. Add in full LTE support with functional calling / SMS from the watch, and that whole thing becomes a moot selling point of the 8 Pro.

My biggest concern is the weight.. because the Garmin Vivoactive 6 weight feels just right.. I bet this one feels chunky and heavy as heck? if anyone can please tell me how it feels to compare thanks in advance

They're saying that satellite connectivity/InReach are differences between the F8 and F8 Pro. AWU3 vs. F8 or F8 Pro is a different matter. The Apple is more of a smartwatch or mini-iPhone, while the Garmin is more of a sportswatch and training companion, and can pair with any mobile device, not just iOS.

This is my concern. Apparently even the try-on models at REI are dummies that are the same size, but not the same weight, which is half the battle. I just want to compare the F8 vs. Forerunner 970 before shelling out the better part of $1000.

yes! In fact I'm gonna give this deal a pass.. I was thinking whether I can resell on eBay for a small profit.. but there are too many eBay scammers these days. The watch is too heavy for me and not worth the risk reselling

It's this one. There are at least 2 or 3 other sites with similar price right now for the solar sapphire pro version and multiple sites have it at $500.
No offense, but absent links to the other similar deals, I think you're mistaken. Garmin's naming scheme is overly complex. I'm shopping this watch right now and can't find anything particularly close to this deal. Some are not Sapphire, others are the 7 and not the larger 7x.

This is really helpful, thanks! I agree that data is usually overkill for most people and most things. I could also care less about smart watch features and only wear this wearable for sleep tracking and running. I'm in a hard spot because I've been tired all the time for years despite being very fit and have found that my "deep sleep stage" is fairly low (I have no idea if it is accurate or not even on the AW). I either use the AW and don't track my longest training runs and longest races (5% of my runs) which I guess is okay if I'm not being a perfectionist but is annoying as those runs are my peak performance events, get a Garmin with inferior sleep tracking but much better fitness data and remain in the dark somewhat on my fatigue, or get two devices and blow some more $$ in an anti-SD fashion.

I guess a better question is - as a runner, do you think the topographic tracking is a game changer on the 965/fenix/etc vs. the breadcrumb tracking on cheaper models like a 265S? And do you think Garmin is better/onpar with the Coros models like Pace/Pace Pro?

Thanks again, pretty rare to come across an experienced runner in these threads.
There are doctors that specialize in sleep medicine who can provide you with better insight as to why you feel tired all the time

Take a few moments to search and you'll find at least 3 or 4 within $25 of this. The deals and offers change pretty regularly but at the time I originally posted this it was available on scuba.com, Bikecloset.com, and sunnysports.com for $450 and there's a code you can use on scuba.com to get it for less. They are all for the same Garmin Fenix 7x Pro (Solar as demarked by the X) 51mm. Amazon and Walmart also seem to be following that pricing trend depending on what day/time you look.

is there any significant difference between this and the fenix 7 pro 47mm other than the size?

Pulled the trigger. Probably overkill for what I need but good price and if battery life is as advertised it'll be worth the upgrade over current Garmin late mode forerunner that I've gotta recharge at least once a week.
