I get it but that is in the future. I need a laptop this very week. I need it arrive before black friday. I cant find a good laptop with a nice screen under $600. There are not good deals this year.

Another difference: the Costco one has a 250 nits screen, while this one is a bit brighter at 300 nits.

No, according the the specs the USB-C port supports power deliver but does not support Displayport. So it does not appear that you could connect to a an external monitor with USB-C, you would have to use the HDMI port.

No card reader?

Is this now becoming a standard that manufacturers no longer include an SD card reader?

It's one feature I'd really like...would welcome comments from some experts. Looking at many of the BF deals, and I'm surprised that many do not offer a card reader.

Which card(s) format(s) do you need one for? Maybe you know, or maybe not, that card readers are a cheap PNP accessory. Many micro-SD cards come with one bundled in.
Do you need to use them on the laptop constantly, or very often?

I've never needed to use one on my laptops. Some have one built in, and some don't. I have one to plug into my PC that I think costs $5-$10. Mostly micro-SD format on the ones that have it built in now.

Are you a professional photographer who works in the field and needs one constantly, and hate to have an accessory sticking out? Then it might be a deal breaker for you. You would be in the rare minority for whom it matters that much.

Something I need and you cannot swap out easily and cheaply is a backlit keyboard. That is one example of what I call a deal breaker. I use mine in darker areas.

I'd like to run Linux off an SD card and would like to leave it in the reader in order to boot from it directly (rather than plugging in a USB stick). Doing this now on another laptop and very convenient and easy to manage.

Snagged this instead of the Costco BF deal.
Screen: For a laptop, A 16" 300 nits non-touch over a 15.6" 250 nits touch is a no-brainer.
SSD: 512GB vs. 1TB - Daughter will never need the additional space for high school. Otherwise, easy enough to upgrade.

Have you looked at the documentation? Walmart says 16GB max memory and the ASUS site for the model says 24GB.

Yep. I have a few SODIMMs laying around... Planning to do just that (upgrade to 24 GB). Don't trust Walmart's nomenclature.
