This Verizon iPhone 16 Pro deal is mainly about a low monthly device payment paired with a $500 Walmart eGift Card, but the real value depends on navigating the payoff and cancellation steps. In store, the gift card often arrives within minutes or hours, and Verizon phones are supposed to auto unlock after 60 days. The main friction is that payoff access can be blocked for about 30 days, some stores only accept cash, and the line still needs separate cancellation. Sales tax is due on the full amount, and the gift card timing can be delayed on online orders.

Common Questions (5)

  • The offer requires installment activation on an eligible AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile plan, and the gift card is sent by email. In-store purchases usually get it within minutes to 24 hours after activation, while online orders can take up to about 21-25 days after shipment.

  • Yes, but the payoff process is inconsistent: some buyers were able to pay off at a Verizon corporate store or by calling 611, while others were told to wait 30 days or that only corporate stores could do it. After payoff, the line can be canceled through Verizon chat or customer service, but you may still need to push for prorated charges and fee credits.

  • Yes. Verizon's policy says phones purchased from Verizon or an authorized retailer are locked for 60 days after purchase or activation, then automatically unlock unless the device is stolen or fraudulent. Several buyers also reported the phone showing unlocked around day 60 without needing a separate unlock code.

  • The gift card is issued by Walmart after the purchase is completed, so canceling the carrier line does not appear to void the card by itself. The bigger risk is paying off the phone too early or failing to complete the installment activation, which can prevent the promotion from applying.

  • The phone price varies by storage, with examples like $24.98/month for 128GB and $27.75/month for 256GB over 36 months. A common 256GB total is about $1,099.08 before tax and activation, so after the $500 Walmart eGift Card the effective device cost is roughly $600 plus tax and fees.

If possible, it's MUCH easier to complete this deal IN-STORE. I've completed similar deals twice prior and they've worked out well. But the online connection between Walmart and the cellular provider (at least Verizon) has been glitchy (you would've thought they would iron this out over the last 7-8 years). Be prepared to pay full price + tax + activation fee ($40?) at point of sale. Both times, I received my gift card via email within 24 hours. I've called local stores to check availability before driving there, if I could get through (although this deal wasn't advertised as heavily and my local store has plenty of 16 variants this time). This has been the best deal out there, with the caveats being that you have to have use for a Walmart gift card and I've kept my Verizon service (so not sure how it works for trying to just get an unlocked phone to take elsewhere).

Did anyone not receive the $500 gift card last year after placing the order online and canceling Verizon service within 3 days of activation?

I have a Verizon phone and account provided by my work. Should I open a new account and then cancel it within 3 days after activation to get this deal?

If I just want to upgrade an eligible existing Verizon line do I even need to jump through those hoops?

Does anyone happen to know how you can do this with Verizon without having to add a new line or upgrade from unlimited welcome to their unlimited ultimate (or whatever the higher cost plan is called)? I just want to upgrade the phone but not the monthly service.

Same. Says this: "You must be an account owner or an account manager to continue." Odd, because I am the account manager.

Having trouble understanding the best path forward for an existing AT&T customer. Anyone here buying the phone who already has an active plan? Do I need to upgrade to a certain plan?
