There are advantages to doing this with ATT instead of Verizon.

1. After buying the phone in Walmart, you can pay off phone via ATT online chat. For Verizon you have to go to a store.
2. ATT activation fee can be voided instantly from the bill by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" when the bill arrives even if it's more than 3 days from activation which will mostly happen if you ship it to your house.

3. ATT version can be instantly unlocked using eSIM swap. It's YMMV but for most people it works if you follow the instructions below and do the transfer of the eSIM properly from iPhone to another phone.
4. Even if the eSIM swap does not work I have seen some getting the phone unlocked by chatting with CS once the phone is paid off. That also is YMMV

Sim swap instructions

1. There are two timelines for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. But as mentioned earlier that fee can be voided instantly by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" in the bill even after 3 days.

2. You can use SIM swap method method to unlock the device.

3. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the eSIM. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then transfer the eSIM to another unlocked phone. Make sure you are transferring the eSIM without making a new one so no ATT involvement. Reboot the other phone, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.

4. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ (in incognito mode) and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of iPhone nd submit an unlock request using a different email, phone number, name etc not associated with the ATT account.

5. Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.

6. ONLY CANCEL THE LINE AFTER YOU HAVE UNLOCKED THE PHONE. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT ANYMORE.

Edit: Forgot to mention you will have to try the SIM swap roughly 24 hours after paying off the phone. The unlock portal syncs with the billing system every night or so.

Not started yet. I don't like gc promotion because you have to pay tax on the full amount.

Thank you for posting this deal! Is the following correct?

1. Order the iPhone 16 online to take part of this deal
2. Once phone is delivered, activate the phone and place a test call
3. Call Verizon or log into your Verizon account to pay off the phone and cancel your service within 3 days of activation
4. Receive the $500 walmart gift card
5. iPhone is unlocked after 60 days despite not paying for a Verizon plan at all

This looks good if you are Tmobile already; what is the catch
Don't think there's one of you are on T-Mobile. They require 40 days of active service before unlocking otherwise

Does Verizon not require at least 60 days service before automatically unlocking the phone?

Will this deal come back again on Black Friday?
Prior to this year this deal would only be available for the Walmart Thanksgiving week Black Friday sales (usually Event02), BUT this year they appear to be doing it for Event01 AND Event02!

If you look at one of the eligible iPhones at walmart.com and click the SEE DETAILS button to see the terms & conditions for the $500 walmart gift card (Special $500 eGift Card with purchase See Details) you should see the following:

[Walmart Gift Card Offer Details:
Walmart Gift Offer available for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile online and in-store purchases. Requires installment activation of eligible phone on AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile payment plan.

For Event 1, Online Purchase must occur between 7:00PM ET November 13, 2025 for Walmart+ members, all other customers begin after 11:59PM ET November 13, 2025 through 11:59PM PT November 16, 2025.

In-store customers can purchase starting 6:00AM local time November 14, 2025 through close of business local time November 16, 2025.

For Event 2, Online Purchase must occur between 7:00PM ET November 24, 2025 for Walmart+ members, all other customers begin after 11:59PM ET November 24, 2025 through 11:59PM PT December 1, 2025.

In-store customers can purchase starting 6:00AM local time November 28, 2025 through close of business local time December 1, 2025.

eGift card is an electronic gift card valid on future purchases. See Gift Card Terms and Conditions or Walmart Associate for eGift card terms here.

eGift card is sent via email within 24 hours of phone activation for in-store purchases & within 21 days after phone shipment for online purchases.]

So it looks like the same or a very similar deal will be available starting online on November 24th for W+ members!!!

Hopefully the Event02 deal is also for iPhone 16's because in previous years the offer would be a gift card for either specific iPhones or specific Samsung Galaxy etc phones…for this deal I've so far only seen iPhone 16s having this deal…no idea if they're doing a similar deal for Samsung androids or not…hopefully that's not the only thing available for Event02's version of this deal.

Btw, those who have already opened or let the Walmart store associate open their factory sealed iPhone box might have trouble returning it to Walmart for a full refund.

According to Walmart Corporate Return Policy Page: https://corporate.walmart.com/pol...urn-policy

Under the Exchange Only Items pulldown:

[Exchange Only Items:

Some products if opened or used can only be exchanged for an exact or similar item as follows:
Unlocked opened wireless phones within 14 days*.
Drones, Projectors within 30 days*.
Air beds/air mattresses within 90 days*.
Durable medical equipment within 90 days* (e.g., crutches, walkers, slings, mobility scooters, pulse oximeters).

Funeral products: (e.g., caskets, coffins) can be exchanged within 90 days if damaged or defective and unused. New or used items are nonrefundable unless the return is due to manufacturer defect or damaged.

*New, unopened items can be returned for a full refund.]

I personally think that that might be a big reason for the in store Walmart associates wanting to open the phone boxes so badly…to prevent a full refund from being able to occur/possibly messing up their commission…
I, of course, could be wrong; but the phone boxes obviously don't need to be opened to activate the ones that are being shipped out to customers…

If anyone is successful at refunding their opened box iPhones to Walmart please let me know how it goes…I personally think that making sure both Walmart and the cell phone carrier list the refund/you're not on contract anymore is going to be very difficult…but good luck!

Imo, instead of trying to refund it to Walmart you guys might want to first contact AT&T support (maybe through the chat box function at att.com so you can take screenshots of the whole conversation and to have a reference number for this particular chat), and you could make up a story about how you unexpectedly got some holiday money early from family members (or that you got a bit of a bonus from work) and were wondering if you fully pay your AT&T phone off right now can it then be fully unlocked instead of having to stay on a higher tiered AT&T phone plan for 60 days?

You could even act like you might want to jump on a new holiday deal that AT&T might still offer during this holiday season (ie maybe you'll buy a whole new phone from AT&T if your current phone gets unlocked ASAP without a 60 day wait time)…
or maybe act like you want to just take your brand new phone over to AT&T prepaid since they're like $30/month compared to $60+/month for AT&T postpaid Unlimited plans…
just a few random ideas…
Good luck guys!

Check Verizon unlock policy

From Verizon website:

Prepaid Device Unlocking Policy

Devices that you purchase from Verizon and certain devices purchased from one of our authorized retailers are locked for 60 days after paid activation. After 60 days of paid active service and ordinary usage, we will automatically remove the lock unless the device is deemed stolen or purchased fraudulently. Following the 60 day lock period following device purchase, we do not lock our phones at any time.

I thought iPhone 16 pro on T-Mobile on a monthly payment like this but I stand corrected. They do have one with down payment plus small monthly payment https://www.walmart.com/ip/168984...512002427d.
For T-Mobile, No upgrading. Only new or add a line.

I'd like to move all 4 of our lines to Verizon with this deal, but Walmart only let me place one order at a time.

So I placed 4 separate orders. It looks like they did 4 separate "soft pulls" on my credit - one for each phone.

Any tips on how to consolidate this into one account when I get the phones? All are in my name with the same address and PIN code.

They haven't shipped yet, but fingers crossed!

That's technically the Verizon PREPAID phone policy.
I believe that a Verizon POSTPAID phone policy would be what a phone contract (like this deal) would be under.

I want to share my story. I went to the store to pick up the 16 Pro Max today and only paid the tax, they wouldn't let me put down payment. After activating the phone, I went home for a while and came back to pay off the phone. The staff at my store wouldn't help me do that, they told me to contact Verizon to do that. After trying to connect with the Verizon store and online customer service, they both refused to let me pay off the phone. So I went back to the store again to return the phone, things started to get difficult because they called it a special order. They vaguely told me I could only return it the Monday after the promotion ended. I didn't agree because I would need to pay Verizon service and activation fees. After about 3 hours of dealing with their horrible attitude, they had to contact higher managers to let me return the phone, which at that point had been canceled with Verizon, sim-free, and unlocked. But the system couldn't process the return. They told me to leave and come back tomorrow. I was so frustrated, now I'm stuck with an unlocked phone, a $500 gift card, BUT only paying tax.

So if the phone is unlocked and you have your gift card then why do you still want to return? Most people wanted to do the same asap.

2 years ago, during BF, the payoff could be done using Verizon's pay by phone feature using a credit card. An automated payment system. I did it for a 15PM.

Do you happen to know if that's still possible?
Not possible . They closed that loop.
