i bought verizon on 14 nov iphone 16pro max in store. Left $1 for payoff.
Just went to CORPORATE Verizon store and became a silly goose , lawyer and a polite cat.
1) initally they showed me on ipad that i cant pay off for 30 days.
2)i said bought phone as a gift and person(slide women card) want iphone17 air.so on thanks giving i will get another line.
3)moreover told them , there ipad says UNLESS i pay cash in store i can pay pff device
4)dude said how much is left on the device. i said $1
5)he laughed and said do you a $1 ?. i slid $1
6)handed me receipt and i disappeared from the store instantly
7)most diifcult part is now to cancel the device by talking to a human being
You can and should cancel via chat making sure they disconnect the line right away

Can we buy two under the same account for Verizon (one after the other to use $500 GC) and then pay off the account or better to do one line per account? Hope someone can help as I am at the store.

I have a Verizon family plan with 5 lines. Can I buy at Walmart by adding a line, pay all but $1 and then just call in to cancel the line? Since I am keeping the 5 I have will they just bill me the leftover $1

Did you bought the second phone on the same account or a different one?

I just went to a corporate store and they are saying their system is not allowing me to pay my device for the first 30 days. Also at Walmart, the associate said he didn't have the option for a down payment. This deal is hard to replicate.

Yes, thats their policy. If SIM swap does not work, you can request unlock after 60 days even without an active account
You should ask CS rep for unlock before cancelling the account though as if they unlock you can then go ahead and cancel the account. SIM swap is the first thing to try though.
"You should ask CS rep for unlock before cancelling the account" - what does it mean - do you have to pay 2month phone service to be active; or cancel the service but leave the account on?

Reading ATT policy and looking at reddit it seems ATT recently started auto unlocking Google/Samsung/apple phones. Some in reddits have confirmed it seems but I am not quite sure
do you mean auto unlocking after 60days like Verizon without active service?

i got mine unlocked from AT&T using the esim swap thanks to gadgetNerd. few updates
1. i did not wait 24 hr after full payment to the phone before requesting unlock and it worked.
2. during the esim swap, it went through the AT&T account to confirm the phone swap.

Does Verizon still charge you for first month?

Do we need to work with Verizon after 60 days to unlock it.

Went to the Verizon store to pay off but my account showed "Pending order" status so they couldn't do anything...anyone know what that is? I just got the phone today at Walmart.

Switching to T-Mobile and leave after $800 virtual gift cart doesn't work. Last year when I wanted to try, customer rep said you have to stay with T-Mobile for a year otherwise T-Mobile is gonna charge back.
I didn't know that. Thank you for the information.

I haven't recently looked at the T-Mobile Keep and Switch FAQs area, so I'll have to recheck it out to see if they've added a clause about how long someone needs to stay with T-Mobile.

The only time thing I had previously found was that you can only do T-Mobile Keep and Switch every 2 years.

If a T-Mobile associate can't give me a specific webpage or a contract area that I signed that says that I have to remain with them for 1 year then I'm not as inclined to believe it.

I definitely will be taking screenshots of everything that I agree to (and of the T-Mobile Keep & Switch FAQs area) just in case I need to dispute a clawback charge.

Even staying there for a year still might be worth it though since T-Mobile Keep and Switch works with their lowest postpaid $50/month Essentials plan.

I don't know. I have some research to do.

Thanks again for the heads up!

Edit: just scanned over the T-mobile Keep and Switch website: https://www.t-mobile.com/switch/k...zon-or-att

I'm NOT seeing anything about a minimum amount of time needed to stay with T-Mobile to prevent a clawback of the refund from occurring…maybe I'm still missing something, but I would have thought that it would be listed under the FULL TERMS area for the rebate/prepaid debit card itself…

This is what the FULL TERMS (as of November 15, 2025) are for the T-Mobile Keep and Switch rebate/prepaid debit card:

[Keep your phone and switch.

Join T-Mobile and we'll pay off your eligible phone up to $800 via virtual prepaid Mastercard.
Limited time offer; subject to change. Qualifying device, credit, service, and port-in (Verizon, AT&T, Spectrum, Claro, Xfinity, Liberty, Cox, Carolina Wireless, or UScellular) required. You must unlock device before port-out; ask us how. Device balance (incl. lease purchase option) up to $800 paid by virtual prepaid MasterCard (no cash access & expires in 6 months) which you can use online or in-store via accepted mobile payment apps, typically within 15 days. Tax excluded. Submit proof of balance & 90+ days in good standing with carrier & device within 30 days of port-in and be active and in good standing when processed; allow up to 15 days. Devices previously used for Keep & Switch are not eligible. We might ask for more information. Up to 4 lines. One offer per subscriber. T-Mobile Prepaid MasterCard is rebate/reimbursement or exchange on port-in; for any tax implications, consult a tax advisor. No money has been paid by you for the card. Card is issued by Sunrise Banks N.A., Member FDIC, pursuant to a license from Mastercard International Incorporated. Mastercard is a registered trademark of Mastercard International Incorporated. Use of this card constitutes acceptance of the terms and conditions stated in the Cardholder Agreement.]

Could you elaborte the second point, please? You mean, you checked out your ATT account to doublecheck if the other phone (not the new iPhone) is shown up as your phone now? Correct? Because gadgetNerd in his instruciton pointed out there shouldn't be ATT involvement during esim swap.
