I cancelled the AT&T line BEFORE doing sim swap and now when I try to do it, it says they cannot because I cancelled within the 14 days. Will I ever be able to unlock now? It is paid off completely. Do I return the device to Walmart or wait and use on an AT&T line? Am I even able to return to WALMART if it's paid off completely?
You can contact ATT after 60 days as their policy is 60 days wait, not active account. But you might have to file FCC complaint at the end.

My verizon bill says 0 balance but paid off. I talked with agent and he said he is going to roll in device price with next months bill ( due dec 21) but I'm not seeing the device amount. when I check the status online, it says good news your device is paid off and you are ready for the upgrade etc.

If I tell them to deactivate line will they do it and then I would just owe them the device price? or you would recommend I port out while the line is active? I am not planning on using the phone till it unlocks. The agent I spoke to said it will unlock upon device payment. worse case I'm willing to wait till 60 days.
Same here. In my case I closed my account and they said no dues.

Update: bought 2 att phones for shipping. Got both, used the eSIM swap on both. One unlock request was super smooth, the other I didn't get the first email to confirm the request and had to wait 24 hours and try again,. It came a few hours later the second time I tried, so now both are unlocked and I just cancelled service for both. Each phone had a separate ATT account which was super clean and easy. Thanks for all the help gadgetNerd!
Hey all, I ordered the phones in two separate orders.. walmart wouldn't allow ordering more than 1 at a time for ATT. I created two separate ATT accounts, one for each phone. I had to wait 24 hours to generate the unlock request again for the second phone that had issues with the email delivery and it came within an hour. I waited until the next day and was able to unlock it just as easily as the first phone. Once the device showed no sim restriction I cancelled both accounts later that day citing service issues. Honestly not sure if I got charged any fees or not, but I cancelled both lines within 72 hours of receiving the phones.

I assumed you ordered online for delivery both phones? When you did the second phone did you use the exact same info as the first order to order and setup the second ATT account? Or did you change something like name, email, cc#, address, etc.? For the unlock of the ATT phones did you use another unlocked iPhone for both new iPhones or did you use an Android phone as well (if Android too please describe the steps for how you did the unlock using the eSIM swap.

Thanks so much. I used sim swap again and it worked and then I used US mobile free port in trial and transferred for free. Really easy compared to chatting or calling ATT customer service who will give me headache before cancellation.
Thx for this, porting out to US Mobile did the trick to cancel my att line after phone got unlocked.

Could you please tell me what shipping service the phones were sent through? Ontrac, ups, fedex, something else?

Also did you sign for the phones upon delivery or did you use the passcode option that I read about on the submitted attachment that someone posted on this thread?
If passcode was used did they text the phone number that's tied to your Walmart account or what?

Thank you for any help.

How did you close it? If you just close it, will it still unlock after 60 days? that's all I care about. It will be nice to pay off and unlock before 60 days but at minimum cancel it so you can get the activation back and there are no monthly charges.

Verizon doesn't unlock even if it is paid off. They only unlock after 60 days.
So, once they say it's paid off [correctly/incorrectly] go ahead and close it.

It shouldn't cause any problem with unlocking after 60 days correct? once it was activated with verizon. The chat agent said it has to be atleast 30 days of paid service to unlock the device after 60 days.

It seem there system will not update to pay the bill for next 3-5 days, not sure if they will be able to waive the activation after 3 days.

It looks like the agent may not have provided me with incorrect info. The phone unlocks after 60 days, provided it is not stolen, fraud etc. There is no requirement for paid subscription for 30 days etc.

I purchased ATT iPhone 16 PM in store yesterday evening, got the Walmart GC in store, within 5-10 minutes. Created account online, and paid off the device balance. This morning, I did eSIM transfer and then unlocked the phone. Unlock was pretty much instant. Now, I just need to cancel the line. Hope it's as easy as eSIUM transfer and unlock.

Can ATT service be canceled online, without any interaction with agents, or I need to reach out? How is everyone canceling the line? Thanks.
