Yes I learnt it hard way. I was excited when I could pay it all off in store, knowing people were having difficulty payig afterwards, l thought I would come home, activate and then cancel. easy peazy right? not so fast. My phone was unlocked the same day to my astonishment but then NO GC. that was the kicker.
why no GC? How does Walmart even know that you paid it off? Please enlighten.

The term saysWalmart Gift Card Offer Details: Walmart Gift Offer available for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile purchases. These devices aren't eligible to be paid off.

I cannot pay off online. Not even $1. so going to the store is the only way to pay off?

Cancel within 3 days
If I don't get the phone in the mail for three days, that's not going to work, as I still have to wait 24 hours after paying it off to do the eSIM trick and then cancel. So if you cancel after more than three days but less than 14, you pay for one month? Is that right? (AT&T deal)

I did the AT&T deal last night and the confirmation email says this about the gift card:

"Congrats! You're getting a $500 Walmart eGift Card. We'll email your e-gift card to you – expect it about 25 days after your device has shipped."

Is this new? It seems from prior comments that people were getting their gift cards right away... Wonder why the change, and if this leaves the possibility of it being clawed back if I cancel the plan.

People who did this with Verizon, please report your final amount to pay. Both me and my wife did this deal
and her final bill is about $11 and mine is over $22. This makes no sense. Before I call I would like to know what the usual prorated amount is (cancelled within 3 days).

Hi ! So I had ordered the device on Nov 15th. Received it today. The chat support waived the $40 activation fee. They also helped me pay off the device entirely via a dedicated URL. They also adjusted the service to start today instead of Nov 19th (this was a Walmart online order). So now what all do I need to do? Cancel the service? How do I ensure that I get the 500 Walmart gift card? Thank you.

which provider? unless people post their timeline we are not going to know when the GC is sent for online orders. There is not a single post that mentions this, so we dont know.

No, you can void the activation fee instantly even if it's more than 3 days as one time courtesy directly from the bill. If you cancel within 14 days then you end up paying only for those days, ATT will send you a full bill and you have to chat to get things credited, see the wiki of this thread for more details
