just got the HP Victus AMD Ryzen 7445HS ...which is better?
I'd say the the Ryzen as it uses DDR5 RAM. I have this laptop from the same deal and same price as last year. If the Ryzen had been available for $50 more I would have jumped on that one instead. That being said I have been happy with what I got. I put in a 1TB SSD, upped the RAM to 32GB and installed Windows 10.
This is a good deal. I haven't seen a laptop with 4050 under $550 for months. Cheapest sales I've seen are $550-600 range. Its rare to see any laptop with legit GPU at $500 and that would usually be with a 3050. Not a fabulous bargain, but still a good deal for basic gaming laptop.
I don't know why anyone would crap on this, as long as people know what they are buying. The combination of tariffs and DRAM being in a short term price bubble make this hard to beat. It's ready to go as a low-medium performer at 1080p. Yes, it's entry level, but it beats the socks off most iGPU laptops like the Radeon 780m, 880m and even 140v in Lunar Lake. If you can only spend $500 to get a complete, working gaming laptop, you won't find a better deal.
Obviously, if you go up a little more in price, you'll find RTX 4060s start appearing in $600-$700 range, but that's kind of the point. There are sacrifices you make for buying a $500 gaming laptop. In this case, the DDR4 RAM, a 6GB VRAM card, an older CPU, and over 5lbs weight. Build quality is so-so, but in-line for this price segment. I'm sure the screen isn't especially color accurate, but it's 144hz, and apparently 300 nits.
I personally would skip this, but if someone is on a slim budget and wants a ready-to-go gaming laptop, this will work fine. Just don't expect it to run anything maxed out, and you'll be reasonably happy. It's basically a "foot-in-the-door" for PC gaming.
Yes, it's the same as last year. Took one whole year to go down to this price again, lol.
Yeah I was just looking at my past purchases at Walmart and I bought this and returned it in late November 24. The screen was dismal. I may have got a bad one but the colors were way off. As luck would have it I ended up with a more awesome deal on an open box desktop PC with a 4070 for less than this at BB. So it all worked out.
I got one from microcenter open box for $370. Great laptop, a little bit loud and hot but perfectly fine. It came with an i5-13500h which I wonder why I don't see them around anymore except for the i5-13420h.
