18 x14 x 8 inches is usually the max for personal item and it must fit under the seat in front of you. So this should work.

Depending on what you consider to be the "best" value. Travel bags like Matein and Bagsmart are cheaper and also good bang for the buck and may be the best value for a lot of people. Osprey is a nice step up in quality but you do pay more for it. You can also pay a lot more than Osprey for travel bags, so really just depends on your budget and needs.

If you research one bag travel on Youtube, this is one of the highest rated and best value options across many channels. They also say it's typically sold out. Rarely is it on sale. I purchased the Amazon gray for $100 a while back. Great travel bag! I saw this sale and purchased another in the black. The Osprey 26+6 is arguably the best flight carry on/personal backpack on the market and hard to beat at regular price. It's a must get when it's on sale like this. Grab it if you can at this price and in the high demand colors.

I also purchased the 35L to try out. Note: REI does not carry the 26+6 but does have the 35L it seems at the $89 sale price.

This bag is a top pick in the onebag / personal item category, and it's been pinned at $100 MSRP or OOS for the last year+, so $75 is a solid deal.

At 17"x13"x6" (8" expanded), it'll count as a personal item that can fit under the seat for most airlines who use the popular 17"x13"x8" or 18"x14"x8" size limits for personal items.

Note: United is the one exception, as it has uniquely small (17"x10"x9") personal item dimensions, but they're not a LCC, and don't even have sizers at the counter, so as long as you don't overstuff it, I wouldn't sweat it.

If you're on a tight budget, don't travel often, and any bag you use will only see light duty and just sit in your hotel for the whole trip, a $25 generic bag will suffice.

However, if you expect to be moving around with a bag on your back for parts of the day using buses and trains on a multi-city travel, you will greatly appreciate the extra heft on the fabric for durability, the high-quality YKK zippers that don't jam or come apart, the proper shoulder straps that offer support, and the breathable, padded, foam backpanel that won't leave you with a drenched back. For +$50, is that a good deal? YMMV, but for me, it's a no-brainer.

And if you are feeling lucky, Chase Freedom 5% category is PayPal in December. So you should be able to double dip the 10% and 5% since the Osprey sales ends on Dec 1st.

It's OOS at Cabelas/BassPro now - I placed my order yesterday and got a cancellation this morning too, which sucks - I needed to use a $40 GC up and that plan is botched now Frown

Disappointing especially because I ordered it yesterday soon after the deal was posted.

Technically it's too tall to be a personal item when expanded. If you can stuff it under the seat, you might get away with it, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to do so.

countless reviews show that it is indeed possible. many people have taken them on dozens of trips and never experienced issues.
