I bought this when it went on sale a few weeks ago and I have used it a bunch. Is it bright within 5 feet, yes. Is it big, yes, is it uncomfortable, yes, does the battery last long, no (45 mins). it works well up close for short periods of time, worth the 13 but not full price.

The answer to the USB-C vs micro question from Darkbeam. Explains why their pic looks like micro and they don't specify the USB connector in their description.

The are great for blinding everyone you're camping with and not much else. You want something with a lens so a light is targeted where you're looking vs blasting everywhere and wasting batteries. If you want a lantern strapped to your head, use a real lantern that will last longer.

When working under cars it's a real p.i.t.a. to have a focused beam and I end up hanging those by the strap on something. But this might not fit with your head under some cars.

Do you even camp bro? A focused beam is a terrible idea for around camp. You'll be tripping over things constantly and finding and sorting gear would take forever. A spotlight is the correct beam pattern for lighting up things at a distance. If you want to see things around you, e.g. in camp, a flood light is what you need. Also a spotlight is way more blinding than a flood light.

That's one of the reasons I bought this is. It's easier to troubleshoot a problem when you can see the entire engine bay at once instead of hunting around with a beam. And yeah the battery pack is annoying and wants to tilt your head when it touches the creeper or ground.

I was thinking for this reason and also when working in attic or any electrical work when needing to cut power. Can this charge while in use? Ie if I have a battery pack connected to it

how would this be for night fishing? not expecting something to illuminate the water per se but just get a good light source to see what I am doing. is this over kill?

I think it'll be great for night fishing. It has a red light setting too if you want to maintain your night vision. I'm pretty happy with it especially for only 13 bucks!
