Wolverine Spencer waterproof hiking boots stand out as a budget waterproof option with extra wide sizes and free shipping. The boots have held up for years in Michigan winter, keeping feet dry through slush, water, and snow, and the wide fit helps for broader feet. The main cautions are possible stitching and build quality concerns, plus some reports of wet feet despite the waterproof label. They also sound warm and sweaty for year round wear, so they fit cold, wet conditions best.

Common Questions (5)

  • They can keep feet dry in slush, water, and snow, and one pair has held up since 2018 in Michigan winter use. A separate report says waterproof Wolverine boots still let feet get wet in wet grass and snow, so performance may depend on the pair and conditions.

  • They may run hot and sweaty in warm weather, so they are better suited to colder conditions or cooler hiking. One comment says they are not ideal year-round unless you do not mind sweating.

  • Yes. An order was canceled because the boots were deemed non-compliant with Colorado HB22-1345 due to intentionally added PFAS in the waterproofing treatment. Wolverine customer service reportedly covered express shipping to New Mexico as a workaround.

  • Yes. Extra wide (XW) sizes are available, which helps if you need a roomier fit for wider feet.

  • Yes. Free shipping appears to require selecting the economy tier, while the default option is a faster paid tier. Shipping was estimated at about two weeks with economy.

The waterproofing treatment includes a PFAS. The law you mentioned prohibits sale of items that contain intentionally-added PFAS.

Can an experienced hiker explain to this noob how to be confident descending scree and loose scrabble? Even a slight 5 degree decline freaks me out. I feel like I amabout to slip and slide straight down the slope. End up getting on my but and all fours to descend, looking ridiculous.Like on vacation in Cappadocia, I was descending backwards on all fours. Meanwhile, a dad was carrying his kid and practically galloping down the slope.
It is like driving on gravel in that it takes experience to be comfortable at a high speed. It can help to turn the side of your foot perpendicular to the steepest slope and shift your weight to keep momentum. If you're doing steep switchbacks there is no shame in using hiking poles. They're a smart tool.

Thanks. So I should side step down? It definitely looks better than sitting on my but and inching down. I've watched youtube videos of people using hiking poles as a third leg and intentionally starting a controlled slide.

Good deal for a little over $50 with tax. I'll see about the stitching issues others have mentioned. Also note they default shipping to the 2nd best tier, you have to choose economy to get the free shipping. It's about 2 weeks shipping time for me.
