The RT-BE96U stands out as a high-end WiFi 7 router with strong range, fast speeds, and solid stability, especially in AiMesh setups. Setup is described as straightforward through the Asus web interface, and the router's 4x4 tri-band design, two 10Gb ports, and built-in AdGuard Home add real flexibility. Real-world reports include whole-home coverage in large houses and smoother gaming and streaming after upgrades. Main caveats are its large size, lack of SFP+, some early firmware rough edges, and ongoing Asus security concerns that make firmware updates important.

  • The router can be used as a main unit in an Asus AiMesh setup with wired backhaul.

  • The RT-BE96U supports router-level AdGuard, which can reduce device-by-device setup for ad blocking.

  • The RT-BE96U can be described as stable after firmware updates, with gaming lag spikes and streaming issues disappearing.

  • The RT-BE96U can deliver strong real-world WiFi speeds across a large multi-story home, including weak areas.

  • The RT-BE96U can be difficult to set up when using AdGuard Home, because the configuration process may be more detailed.

  • The RT-BE96U can be enormous and may lack standard wall-mounting options, which can complicate placement.

  • The RT-BE96U can fail to detect internet when connected to a cable modem or another router, and it may even block access to router settings.

  • The RT-BE96U may lack SFP+ ports, which can be a drawback for a higher-priced router.

I got at nov,2025! Opened box its same as new, no scratch! It's just less a plastic sealed! U can reset everything and reinstall the official new firmware, works perfect! Its memory run at 75%. So, i decide to return it and have a asus Zen bt10 at Newegg for $240, almost same specs, but better range and 2gb memory! It doesnt support merlin firmware. But it dont trust third party firmware.
If memory is running high, then guaranteed the firmware was not updated. That issue was fixed months ago. And memory usage is a tenth that…

As far as range, the ASUS RT-BE96U will reach further and go through walls better with its 8 antennas vs the internal BT10 antennas.

Bet your BT10 won't cover a 2800 sq ft 2 story house. I've tested a single ASUS RT-BE96U. At the furthest points between the two, I can still get 20 to 30 mb/s. A more central location will still have about 50 to 60 mb/s at the weakest points.

I bought two ASUS RT-BE96U and used AiMesh to create a beast of a Mesh system.

Update:

Reread your post. I thought you were saying that the CPU was running 75%. My mistake, you were actually talking about memory. I have 70+ devices connected. The memory on mine is at 822mb used and 1226 mb free from a total of 2048mb which is 40% used.

The be92u memory usage is around 75%, the CPU is low in usage. Its memory is 1GB. So, the BT10 is 2GB memory with better coverage! Definitely, be96u is better than BT10. The price reflects differences. The Be96u is 310+tax(expired), the bt10 is 215+tax(pay in 4, PayPal +20% backreward). Get what u needed!

Anyone that missed this deal. ASUS RT-BE88U is available on NewEgg. It's missing the 6Ghz band for Wifi 7. Other than that, it has the same cpu, more 2.5 ports, lower price.

I can't believe this thing doesn't have SFP+. What a joke for a $300+ router.
