Appears it's the base batteries and not the "plus". Much less power...only good for low-draw tools like lights and fans!

This is complete nonsense. There are of course a number of tools that benefit from the HP batteries, but there are plenty that work perfectly fine with the standard batteries or wouldn't see any benefit at all from the HP ones. That list includes a hell of a lot more than "lights and fans".

Pretty good deal. While the HP batteries are better, I have found that the regular batteries are sufficient in most cases. I am strictly a weekend warrior, so the quality of Ryobi tools is more than adequate for my uses. I started buying Ryobi because the One+ line has such a large variety of tools. I probably have over 40 different tools. Everything from basic drills to the air compressor and the sliding compound miter. For 75% of uses the regular 4 and 6 ah are sufficient. Like most guys in the Ryobi ecosystem, I have a huge collection of batteries, both regular and HP. So, if I am on a large project, I have enough batteries charged to see me through. For nail guns, drills, multi tools and such, regular batteries are fine. For impact wrenches, routers and the air compressor, you will be happier with HP.

If you mean the router, yes it's fine. It's not as feature-packed as some of the other brands (there's no plunge base as far as I can tell) but for minor edgework it is OK. Since I don't use it for big jobs like my large router the batteries are not an issue. But for chamfers and roundovers you'll be happy with it.

I kept the tool and returned the batteries before I left the store. They were discounted to $50 each on the receipt so you can return either. You can confirm this by adding them to your cart on their website, it will show the individual prices.

Edit: Scratch that, I didn't realize this was for a combo kit. If you want these batteries, they're currently running a separate promo for the same price as this. Add item number PSK106SB to your cart, then you can select a free tool which can be returned. A bundled kit like this can't be split up.
