This Quest 3S bundle stands out as a low-cost way to get into Meta VR, especially for Quest exclusives, mixed reality games, and the included year of Horizon+. The price can drop to $199 in cart, and the subscription adds a steady stream of redeemable games and store discounts. Costco's return policy and price adjustment window add some comfort. The main cautions are the fresnel lenses, which are blurrier than Quest 3's pancake lenses, and the 3S's weaker fit for productivity or long media sessions. A solid entry point if gaming is the priority.

Common Questions (5)

  • Non-VR games and movies display on a large virtual flat screen, and 4K movie playback can feel like a theater experience with apps like Skybox VR. For productivity, the Quest 3S is limited by its fresnel lenses and lower resolution, so text is not as clear as on a Quest 3 or a monitor.

  • The Costco bundle itself does not include the Batman bundle, but Batman Arkham Shadow is still eligible with a new Quest 3S purchase while supplies last. The game may need to be redeemed after the order completes, and some buyers had to contact Meta support when it did not auto-add.

  • The subscription is tied to the headset and auto-activates during setup in the Meta Horizon app. It gives access to monthly games and Meta+ discounts, but claimed games stay playable only while the subscription remains active.

  • The Quest 3S uses fresnel lenses, while the Quest 3 uses pancake lenses. That means the 3S is sharpest in the center and blurrier toward the edges, while the Quest 3 stays sharper across the whole lens.

  • Costco's return policy applies, and one comment specifically says the warehouse has an unlimited return policy. That makes it a lower-risk buy if you want to test VR comfort and return it if the headset does not work for you.

Are these VR headsets worth it or will they just end up collecting dust?

I'm still waiting on the Quest 3 (not S) deal. Theres got to be one somewhere this season!
Once you see fish eye lenses and higher res, it's hard to go back to crappy fresnel lenses

My son keeps asking for a VR for Christmas, he is 10, keeps saying something about gorilla tag. If I bought this, would gorilla tag work or is it a separate purchase? I haven't ever looked into the VR. Could he have his own account being 10 or does it restrict a lot of stuff since he is under 13? TIA
Yes Gorilla tag works with this headset and it is free to play like Fortnite. Plus it's a decent cardio workout

Gorilla Tag would be a "free" game with micro-transactions and you can lock purchases with a pin. It is rated E for Everyone.

An age restriction would lock your 10 year old out of certain content.

There is a way to share games on the headset.

Umm.. why can't you charge the Meta 3S headset for hours unsupervised? I'd expect most charging late at night or during the day expect their house to not burn down.
I leave my Quest 3, Quest 2, and Quest Pro charging all day 24/7. Just don't do it with garbage chargers and cables.

Completely new to dedicated VR goggles, only used daydream view with original Pixel. If my goal atm is to view videos captured by insta360 x5, is this a good choice? Why do many in this thread want the 3 instead of the 3s apart from resolution? Should I wait for the 3 to go on sale for my use?

Waiting for a deal for meta quest 3

This. Quest 3s performance is pretty much the same as the Q2. I too am hoping for a deal on the 3.

battery degradation is so bad on Quest. The battery might fail (can no longer charge it past 60%) within 1.5 years (warranty is only 1 year)

Non VR games. Is it like you are sitting in front of a large TV screen or do the games fill up each lens? Wondering about this same concern with the newest Steam VR.

Depends on your usage. I purchased mine October 2024 and I played October through March and then I used it every few months and just recently charged it back up to play it this weekend. I did end up getting it on sale for $427 for my 3 after tax and then getting a head strap, battery pack, non-prescription lenses and rechargeable batteries.

It is a great experience but I don't use it as much as I thought I would but the same can be said for my $350 PS5. There's some resale value but the marketplace has a ton used but you never know what they have done with it and how to clean the sweat off or if there's issues like they let the sun hit the lenses and they are all messed up.

If you want to wait for Steam's new VR headset in 2026 that will work with your Steam library but it hasn't been priced. (you may still have the same question about that headset too)

How does the return policy work on this? I'm worried about getting nauseous while playing. If I decide to return the set, but already activated the Horizon subscription, will they did deducting the cost of the subscription from my refund?

Wait for Steam's related headset so you don't have to be stuck in the Facebook ecosystem. (just an idea, otherwise this is a good deal monetarily speaking).

The 12 month bundle is well worth it, 2 free games every month and sales for those that have the subscription. I think Gorilla tag is free to play.

I doubt it. I returned a Quest 3 due to dead pixels and they didn't take the free game away.
