You have to pull off the brush and wipe clean the silicone part on the handle where it connects then set the head back on the handle but leave a space so the silicone dries. If not that part will deteriorate and water will get in the motor.
Does the 4100 do something the 1100 doesn't do? It vibrates. It beeps every 30 seconds so I know when to switch. Is there something else I need in a toothbrush?
1100 for $20 at Amazon:

I don't mean to knock the $30 option, but the $20 may be all you need. Crazy how cheap the Sonicares have gotten.

But here's the full story: The cheapest ones (like this one) are just as effective as the most expensive ones at keeping your teeth clean.
I actually bought a pair of their ridiculous top of the line ones a couple of years ago. They had bluetooth, an app, and 157 different modes, and on the first day of use, it disconnected and reconnected to my phone in the other room like 10 times, and then announced after a single brushing that the wildly expensive brush had to be replaced as it was past its "dead" date due to how many times I had used it. I used it once. Back to Costco they went.
The more 'features', the more problems. It's a TOOTHBRUSH!
I recommend the brand highly (my dentist loves them), but stick with the bottom of the line that does just as good a job.
Just be aware that the replacement brushes are expensive. It's the old "Cheap razor, expensive razor blades" business model.
Don't forget to floss.

Bottom of the line is $20: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-So...B09LD8VXLX
4100 apparently adds the pressure sensor for an extra $10. 🤷
EDIT: Pretty good NYT article here on whether you need a pressure sensor: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutte...re-sensor/
This [amazon.com] is just one of them.
Philips claims that only their authentic heads are working with pressure sensor, but this is BS.
