Doesn't have DRAM so not ideal for OS usage but fine for most people/games. For 4 TB, I'd say it's a pretty decent price for casual users for mixed usage. Just don't expect the best speeds.

No they're perfectly fine. If you're worried about speed get an NVME drive. Arguing about SATA speeds is a thing from 10 years ago. People know what they are getting when they buy a SATA drive in 2025 and it ain't speed.

SATA speed limitations are understood and acceptable. What most people want to know is how this drive performs in specific areas:
  • Sustained reads/writes speeds
  • Random I/O performance
  • Longevity - Should it have a shorter or longer lifespan than comparable products?
If a drive like this doesn't fail quickly and can sustain 500+ MB/s reads and writes, it's great for what it is. It offers 4 TB of storage while leveraging existing SATA connections and 2.5" bays.

The remaining question is, how well does it handle the items above?

EDIT: The Amazon reviews show performance dropping quickly when benchmarking or under other sustained use. If those aren't just outliers, then this drive loses a lot of its advantage over similar capacity 2.5" HDDs.

Don't expect prices to get any better for any form of NAND memory due to the AI data center BS going on. If you're in the market for a brand new name brand 4TB SATA SSD today, I would pull the trigger.

Would this be a good replacement drive for an Xbox One S that someone gave me over the weekend?
