I saw a similar art home depot, don't understand the concept.... for the small amount of tools it can store versus star it weighs, makes it useless, albeit cute?

These are made for your jewelry, knives, watches, make up, drill bits, office supplies, etc., Harbor Freight has a nicer model in better colors.

Yes its a novelty piece, but it can still be functional.
The 3D printing community likes them for all the small parts/tools for printer maintenance.

Harbor Freight has a couple of their model with basic colors on sale for $14.99 (red, black, blue) with the other colors for regular price $18.99 (gray, purple, green) in store only.
Sale ends 11/26.

The Harbor Freight one is 6" tall, and the top shelf and upper drawer are very shallow. This one is 8" tall and the top shelf and drawer look deeper. Just something to think about, depending on what you want to store in it.

These are also really good for machinists. A lot of the tools we use are very small and extremely expensive.

With the absence of specs, I would be worried that the drawers only open about 5" of the 8+" depth. This makes about at third of the drawer covered by the cabinet itself, which can be really annoying. This is the way the OG HF cabinets work (which are only $15).

HF's new cabinets extend a bit further, which makes it much easier to access things stored in the drawers. The new style are currently $19.

While comparing these mini-chests, it's interesting that HF's chest is rated at 5lbs per drawer, and this one is 8.5lbs. The weight between the two options is very similar.

MAC and Snap On have been making these little boxes for years.

Most are little versions of a full roll around and they are quite expensive if you can find one.

Hard pass on Lowes compared to the Harbor. Harbor has smooth ez glide ball bearings & anti-slip mats for each drawer. Also, metal is thicker & has magnetic pull shut. Harbor 4the win!!

If you live near a Menards, they sometimes have sales which brings it down to something like $8. I think their regular price is $12.

Personally I have one of the harbor freight versions sitting on my leathercraft bench. It's pretty great for holding a bunch of my lesser used tools.

i want the functionality of this but in something cuter. It seems the natural cute alternative is craft organizers? But they don't seem as functional. drawers are always clunky plastic and don't seem as well-built. Maybe a desk organizer is the middleground?

Is there an handle to carry the toolbox? I see none in the photos of this blog as well as HF, Lowes.
TIA
